Huronview
staff f attends
workshop
1!
HURONVIEW-On April 7, Mary Gibbings,
Evelyn Archer, Jane Ladd, Pat Fields and
Diane Elliott motored to Cambridge where
they attended a craft workshop. It was held
at St. Luke's Place, and from all reports, it
was an excellent workshop with the exchange
of many new ideas taking place.
There was a class in ceramics held in the
craftroom on April 8, and also some of the
ladies got together and baked a batch of
cookies.
In the afternoon, Rev. Gordon Simmons
conducted Anglican Communion in the
chapel, assisted by Olive Colwell, Frank
Bissett provided organ music for this
ervice.
The van was available during the morning
of April 9 and a number of residents, accom-
panied by staff, motored to Stratford. They
toured many of the shops and enjoyed dinner
in the restaurant.
It is alway a fun time when the residents
go in to Clinton, and try their skills at the
Crown Lane Bowling. These fans are getting
to be rather good at the game, and find that
their scores are improving each week. While
this activity is a period of relaxation, it also
stimulates the outlook and attitude of the
members.
On April 10, mid -week Bible Study took
place in the chapel with Mrs. Prouty m
charge, and who also led in the singing of
hymns. Elsie Henderson played the organ.
Devotional Bible promises were given by
Mildred Marwick, with the residents taking
part. A poem was read by Mabel Scott, who
also played some selections on the
mouthorgan. Mrs. Prouty presented the
message `Stand Fast in Him.' The meeting
closed with the singing of a hymn and the
benediction.
Roman Catholic Mass was held in the
chapel on April 11 with Rev. John Pinta con-
ducting the service.
In the afternoon, the auditorium was filled
as everyone gathered for an old time spell-
ing bee. There were three teams with cap-
tians Viola Nelson, Pearl McFarlane and
Grace Duggar heading the action. Jane Ladd
pt score, while Frank Bissett was the spell -
g "master". It was surprising how many
good spellers there were, and the process of
elimination dwindled down rather slowly.
It was lots of fun, and the residents had
many good laughs.
There had to be losers and winners as in
any game, and Grace Duggan's team came
out on top. Mary Howell was the overall win-
ning speller.
Huronview welcomes Isabelle Reid from
Bayfield, and Eldon Wilson who comes from
Wingham.

Souvenir plate will feature
setting sun, farming scene
By Mary Chessell
VARNA - Committee members for the
Stanley Sesquicentennial have been receiv-
ing inquiries about a souvenir plate. Artist
Rick Riordan, a former Goderich resident
who is familiar with this area, was asked to
paint a design for reproduction on a
porcelain plate. The publicity committee
directed him to incorporate the lake, the set-
ting sun, and farming about the turn of the
century. The result is a beautiful scene en-
titled Day's End. The plates will arrive by
the beginning of May.
Anyone wanting placemats for local din-
ers should request them early, before they
are distributed to other locations. On July
17, Wintario will be telecast from a tent at
the complex. Another event has been added,
a cricket match in Bayfield ,on July 27. Over
40 floats have been entered for the
Homecoming Weekend Parade, which will
begin at the farm of Mack Webster.
The next event is the Stan -Lee Seniors
Shuffleboard Tournament on April 23.
A good crowd enjoyed a large array of
scrumptious desserts at Varna UCW's
dessert euchre held on April 9 at the Stanley
Complex. Floyd McAsh entertained with a
variety of piano music during the lunch
hour.
