Dick Marshall, Managing Chairman of the festival, who has co-ordinated the various committees since the first festival in 1982, has completed scheduling the classes and has also designed an interesting and varied daily program as well as featured evenings of bands, vocal„ piano, choirs, instrumental and dance. Marshall said, "We are very pleased to have a continued strong enrolment in all categories for our . fifth annual music festival. There will be 54 choirs, 31 bands and over 500 entries in brass, woodwind, and string solos and ensembles. Junior and senior- piano continues to be a major category of competition with over 700 en- tries in solo and ensemble performances. The remaining entries comprise vocal, organ and dance numbers." Many students participate in school choirs and bands as well as classes in piano or other instruments and dance. Since these various classes take place at the same time in different halls the difficulty of avoiding conflicts in scheduling is increased. "This is why it is so important for students and The Midwestern Ontario Rotary Music Festival is unique in being able to accom- modate appEopximately 1450 classes in- cluding thour''ands of participants in one week virtually conflict free. Contestants taking part in the festival come from the following communities: Ayton, Atwood, Alma, Auburn, Belgrave, Brussels, Cargill, Chepstowe, Chesley, Clif- ford, Dungannon, Durham, Elmwood, Dob- binton, Flesherton, Fordwich, Formosa, Goderich, Gorrie, Gowanstown, Hanover, Harriston, Holyrood, Kincardine, Listowel, Lucknow, Markdale, Mildmay, Moorefield, Mount Forest, Owen Sound, Palmerston, Paisley, Port Elgin, Ripley, Southampton, Stratford, Tara, Teeswater, Tiverton, Walkerton, Waterloo, Wingham, and Wroxeter. Marshall remarked, "When I see all these students participating and realize the discipline required to arrive at a performing stage as well as the educational value gain- ed from the adjudicators, it makes all the hours I have spent working on the festival seem so worthwhile." 42.
