Atms finish fantastic season
The Clinton Atom's banner season came
to an end a week ago as they ended their
unbelievable season by winning the Atom
Grand Championship at Durham.
In winning the Grand Championship they
defeated the "B" Champions, Hanover 6-2;
the "DD" Champions, Elma-Logan•5-1, and
the "E" Champions, Shallow Lake 9-5 in
overtime.
Some of the other tournament victories
for the Atoms were as follows: The Hanover
Barons Tournament, the Seaforth Optimist
Tournament, the Lucan Leprechaun Tour-
nament and the Mildmay Tournament.
In all, the Clinton Atoms won a total of
seven team trophies.
A special congratulations has to go to cen-
tre Shaun Chipchase who scored a fantastic
104 goals to go along with 69 assists in
leading all point -getters.
His linemates, Jason Carter and Scott
Jewitt also had a good year. Jewitt had 42
goals and 78 assists for 120 points, while
Carter had 49 goals and 68 assists for 117
points. Even though this trio did a lot of the
scoring the line of Mark Livermore, Danny
Wildfong and Chris Kennedy chipped in with
a lot of big goals throughout the season.
The Atom team this year was anchored by
a great defensive unit. Many times these 4
back -liners - Scott Rathwell, Scott Shaddick,
Scott Wright and Shane MacDonald, led the
way by stopping the opposition from
scoring.
In fairness to say a team can score a lot of
goals but when it comes right down to it, the
team must have that super little guy who
plays between the pipes to keep that bounc-
ing puck out of the net.
Clinton's goalie, Derek Hoggarth played
super in goal this year. Derek finished the
season with 10 shutouts and, to top it off, he
played in all of the 63 games.
Last, but not least, these 11 little super
stars would like to thank their moms and
dads for the encouragement they gave them
throughout the season. The players would
also like to thank the great fans for their
support too. And, don't forget the coaches
Bob Livermore, Bill Hoggarth and Mark
Kennedy who spent hours of time guiding
these super guys.

Arena committee to explore `roofing
•
By Aime Narejko
CLINTON - The arena committee of the
recreation committee is undertaking the
task of re -roofing the arena roof as it is
presently leaking. Steel, shingles and a new
method of sealing are being explored. •
•'It's such a big job and a large amount of
money that we don't want to make a
mistake so we've done a lot of checking
around," said arena manager Butch Fleet
at recreation committee's April 10 meeting.
Recreation Director Steve Campbell ex-
plained they don't know which type of roof-
ing is best.
"They'll give you the negative parts of
shingles and the negative parts of steel and
it all makes sense...You can't get a straight
answer," he said.
Mr. Campbell was recently approached
by a company that does the majority of its
work in the Toronto area. Their method of
roofing is applying a tar substance similar
to sealer.
"With insulation it will cost about $16,000.
If we do the compressor room roof, it'll cost
around $18,700," said MrrCampbell.
If the sealer type roofing is used, the dou-
ble layer of shingles can remain on the roof
as only four ounzes of weight is added per
square foot. If steel or shingles are used, the
present shingles will have to be removed.
The previous recreation director, Kevin
Duguay, obtained estimates for steel roof-
ing. According to Mr. Campbell, the figure
was $35,000 but he is not certain what that
figure includes.
The arena committee will explore all
possibilities further and report back to• the
recreation committee.
The arena roof was last fixed in 1972.
New Members
Ross Jewitt and Audry Lyndon, have
recently joined the recreation committee.
Mr. Jewitt will sit on the arena committee
and Mrs. Lyndon will sit on the parks, pool
and programs committee.
Permanent Position
Steve Campbell has passed his six month
probation period and is now officially Clin-
ton's Recreation Director.
Randy Marriage also passed his six
month probation period and will continue to
work at the arena.
