Townsends celebrate
50th wedding anniversary
BRUCEFIELD - Dorothy and Elmer
Townsend celebrated their 50th wedding an-
niversary on March 29, at Brucefield United
Church. A delicious meal, provided by the
United Church Women was followed by
family addresses, gifts and a short program
with all 14 grandchildren participating.
The Townsends were married by the
Reverend W.A. Bremner on April 2, 1936 at
Spring Hill Farm in Tuckersmith Township.
Mrs Townsend was the former Dorothy
Broadfeot. •
Their two daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs.
Robert Haves) and Erma (Mrs. Pete
Haswell) and three sons Alex, George and
Gerald and their families were present for
the happy event.
The couple received many lovely cards,
gifts, visits and best wishes from their
friends and relatives, along with special
congratulatory messages from the
Honorable John Turner and the Honorable
David Peterson.
A grandson, David Townsend, son of Alex
and Eileen Townsend, is the first grandchild
to be married, so they turned their 50th an-
niversary celebrations into a surprise fami-
ly shower for David and his bride-to-be Con-
nie Evans, daughter of Bert and Lillian
Evans Clinton. Connie's parents, sister and
brother were also present.
Mr. and Mrs. Townsend are enjoying good
health and are looking forward to dancing at.
David and Connie's wedding on June 14.
