tier 2 championship
The Clinton Atom Reds finished their deflected a shot away from the Clinton net
season on March 25 by winning the Ruron and another when Darrel Lavis stopped a
Perth Tier 11 atom chwipionship at Zurich, Goderich player on a breakaway. Finally,
beating Goderich by a 2-1 score in the final
game after defeating Exeter and Blyth in
the earlier games.
Clinton 6 - Exeter 0
Mark King had the hat trick and 1 assist in
this game with linemates Darrel Lavis get-
ting one goal and three assists and Steve
Morley three assists. Scott McClenaghan
notched two goals while single assists in the
game went to Mark Falconer, Jonathon
Gerrits, Ken Betties and Mike
McClenaghan.
Clinton 5 - Blyth 2
41) Clinton was behind in this game 2-1 until
late in the second period when Scott Mc-
Clenaghan evened things up at 2-2. Clinton
then scored three unanswered goals in the
third period for the win. Scoring for Clinton
besides McClenaghan were Mark King with
two and singles for Mark Falconer and Dar-
rel Lavis. Assists went to Mark Falconer
and Darrel Lavis with two each and singles
to Ben Dykstra, Mark King, Scott Me-
Clenaghan, Mike McClenaghan and Steve
Morley.
Clinton 2 - Goderich 1
This game developed into the most ex-
citing game of the year. After two scoreless
periods, Clinton took a 1-0 lead in the third
period on a goal by Steve Morley with the
assist going to Scott McClenaghan.
Goderich replied with five minutes left in
the game and regulation time ended in a 1-1
with only Scott McClenaghan and Tyler
McGregor on the ice for Clinton, Mc-
Clenaghan gained possession of the puck in
the Goderich z,gne and glided a perfect shot
into the net with the two Goderich defenders
hanging onto him.
The win was an excellent end to the club's
season. The team had gone through their 32
game season with 26 wins, 3 ties and only 3
losses. As well as winning the league tourna-
ment, the team also won the Kincardine
tournament two weeks earlier.

Bombers tom Teawho won the
consolation championship at Zurich as well
as the Clinton Travelling Team who were
WOAA champs, giving Clinton three cham-
pionships in the Atom division.

The York Meet marks the end of the Indoor
Track and Field season at CHSS. This has
been the most successful year to date in this
area and the competitors are now
starting to train seriously for the upcoming
outdoor season. Mr. Hilyard .is introducing
pole vault this year and a number of
students are attempting to master the
technique. Mr. Mann and Terry Cox are
coaching the hurdlers, Mr. Craig is
coaching the sprinters and Mr. Ludwig is in
charge of the Track program.
On Mar, 9, the Family Feud Bonspiel n Vanastra was won by the John Brownridge rink in-
cluding John, Heather, Ericka, Gayle and Pam Brownridge. Barry Davis presented the
Davis Family Cup to them.

event. Heng Lee had a time of 61.6 seconds
while Rob Radford's time for the event was
58.5 seconds and Steve Hearn ran a very
strong 55.0 seconds in the Senior Boys.
In the 60 metre sprints, Shelly Bonte-
Gelok placed second in her heat with a time
of 8.84 seconds, in the Midget Girls, Karen
Uyl was fourth in her heat with a time of 8.76
seconds. Julie Trick had a time of 8.66
seconds, Alison Jeacock had a time of 9.00
seconds, Susan Govenlock - 8.73 seconds,
Tara Cluff - 8.72 seconds. In the boys event,
Greg Dinning placed third in his heat with a
time of 8.12 seconds and Colin Thomas had a
time of 8.24 seconds. In the Junior event,
Ron Calder had a good time of 7.87 seconds
while Steve Hearn finished fifth in the
Senior Boys event with a good time of 7.3
• seconds. •
• FIELD EVENT RESULTS
In the long jump, Devon Colquhoun set a
new school , record of 5.48 metres in the
Junior Boys event. This placed him in ninth
place in a field of 38 competitors. Colin
Thomas had a very good jump of 5.19 metres
which placed him in eighteenth place. Both
Wasn't that a weekend! Vanastra Curlers
and visitors had their final fling with about
100 avid curlers participating in the Annual
Spring Thaw.
Two days were packed with merriment,
excellent curling, super food, congeniality,
a few blisters and a Saturday evening
dance.
DJ Russ Archer sure kept everyone kick-
ing up their heels, to the early hours of the
morning, to all types of music even to a
good, old-fashioned square dance.
After a few hours of shut eye, everyone
returned for. a tasty pancake, sausage and
egg breakfast prepared by Mary and Percy
Brown, Rosemary Sellave and Lloyd
McKenzie.
It was then out to the ice for the final
game.

Murray Adams and his rink received the
"Reflections by Design" trophies for the
first draw.
Mark Cantelon and his rink were
presented with the "Campbell Men's Wear"
Trophies by Sheila Richardson.
Bob Hayter and his rink were the over all
winners for the weekend and were the reci-
pients of the Brocher Family Trophy.
Congratulations to all winners and to all
who participated to make our final get-
together a huge success. In about seven
more months we'll all be back to hear the
echoes of "sweep, sweep" "harder, harder,
yes, yes, hurry, hurry, etc., even. Ruby!
Ernie Tavener of London was the lucky
winner of the draw for the television set.
