Blyth couple travel to Wesi Virginia The Blyth Lions Club were the host club for the District Effective Speaking Finals at the Blyth Public School on April 3. Penalty for Tate registration By Kathy Bromley BLYTH - Last weekend Stewart and .Mildred Anent of Blyth travelled to Wheel- ing West Virginia on a bus trip. Two highlights of the trip were the Greyhound Dog Races on Saturday and the Jamboree U.S.A. Saturday evening with Mickey Gilley as the main attraction. The trip was enjoyed and isrecommended if anyone has the chance Lost Heir On Wednesday, April 2, there were enough people in .attendance for Lost Heir. High Lady for the evening was Jean Snell and Harvey Siliib was the high man, Cordon Mti gray and Evelyn Smith took the low- score owscore prizes, Lunch was provided and the might was enjoyed by all. Everyone s invited to come out and at- tend Lost Heir again next Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the Blyth Memorial Hall. Euchre • On Monday night there was good atten- dance again for euchre. High lady was Shirley Glousher. Mable McAdam of Clin- ton, layed as a man, and was high man of the night. Mildred McNall and. Mel Jacklin of Brussels took the low scores. Alberta Sirup- , son and Harvey Sillib had the .most lone hands, while Hazel Reid of Londesboro won the special prize. There will be euchre again Monday night at 8 p.m. in the town hall, so come out for an evening of fun and entertainment. Quote of 'the Week - "I must do something" will always solve more pro- blems than "Something must be done," - Londesboro shower honors baby By Dora Shobbrook LONDESBORO - A baby shower was held at the home of Joanne Lyon with 14 guests in attendance: The shower on April 4 honored Justin Lyon, son of Jane and Wayne Lyon. The evening was spent with fellowship and contests which were organized by the hostesses Kathy Moes and Cheryl Lyon. People Report Weekend guests of Dora Shobbrook were daughter Muriel and Ross Millson, Sarah, Patricia and John of Woodstock. Visiting on April 6 were Dora Lynn and Curtis Blake, Chastity Colquhoun and Marsha Miller of Clinton. Reta and Orville Kelland, Thelma Ellerby and John Cameron spent the weekend in Orangeville as guests of Cy and Elsie Mur- rell. Clara Riley spent April 1 to 4 in. Goderich with her sister Marion and Ben Riley. Sunday visitors with Allen and Ruth Shad - dick were Lloy and Dirk Garlichs of Kit- chener, Maime Carter and Marion Ward of Clinton. Sunday visitors with Clara Riley were Alex and Mattie McGregor of Kippen. Allen and Ruth Shaddick returned home on March 31 from spending the Easter weekend with Staff Sergeant Richard and Jean Shaddick, Sandra, David, Lynn and Nancy in Ottawa. United Church Greeting the congregation for the service were Rev. Snihur and Diana Shobbrook. The ushers were Shannon Duizer, Theresa Knox, Denise Hulley and Kelly Bosman. Rev. Snihur welcomed the congregation and announced the annual Song Fest wnitlri be held on April 13 at 7:30 p.m. The UCW members will meet at the church on April 14 at 8 a.m. to go to the Stratford UCW con- ference. For the children's time, a story called God's Love is Like a Circle was read to the youngsters. The story demonstrated that putting a nail in a board is much like calling peopietnames - it cannot be removed and the hurt still remains. The junior teachers for Sunday were Marguerite and Denise Gross. The anthem was sung with Marsha Szusz leading the choir and Lisa Duizer providing the accompaniment. The scripture lesson was from John chapter 21. After the service, a congregational meeting was held to discuss the family photo directory. Commit- tees were appointed to take charge of the project. The winners in the physical Grade 7 group were Lana Lawrence - third place; Kevin Wright - second place and Mike Merrier - first place. In the Grade 7 biological section the winners were: Tracy Kennedy and Shane Taylor - tied for second and in first place was Shannon Duizer. In the Grade 8 physical division, the win- ners were: Richard Wilts - third place; Mur- ray Whyte - second place and Darlene Buff- inga,-. first place. In the biological section Anita Gross was the'winner with Leona Cun- ningham placing second and Theresa Knox in third place. The school sold cheese to raise money, for student council uses. The students raised approximately $1,200. Mrs. Cooke's Grade 5 class is currently • writing to their penpals at Brookside Public School near Lucknow. • . • W tocollect for Friendship, Home with a box in the church; Mrs. L Stonehouse , BELGRAVE-The general meeting of the Belgrave U.C.W. was held recently with visitors from Calvin -Brick U.C.W. and Belgrave Presbyterian and Anglican Churches. The president, Mrs. Harold Vincent, welcomed everyone and conducted the business. It was decided to put a box in the church for articles for the "Friendship Home",and to send a bale to Goodwill, Lon- don. Aticles should be left at the home of Mrs. Ross Anderson. Mrs. Vincent reminded members of the following meetings: London Conference, Stratford, April 13-15; Ontario Women's Conference at the University of Waterloo, June 13-15 and Campsite Experience -Camp Menesetung, June 18. The Junior Choir will be hosting the Junior Choir -from Professor W. A. Andrew's church, Toronto, April 19-20. v. Mrs. Glenn Coultes conducted our inspir- ing Easter Worship service asisted.by Mrs. Ross Higgins and Mrs. Jim Hunter. Mrs. Ross. Higgins introduced the speaker, Mrs. William Coultes (one of the U.C.W. members ). She Along with 15 other U.C.W. members from across Canada. visited Cuernavoca Centre in Mexico. Mrs. Coultes told of visiting with the poor families, of the shortage of water and the poor sanitary conditions there. She showed slides of her trip which included scenes of poverty-stricken families living in small in- adequate homes. 'f Mrs. Ross Anderson thanked Mrs. Coultes and lunch was served. Weekly Euchre Thirteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre held in the Womens Institute ball Wednesday. Winners were: High Lady, Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse; Novelty Lady, Mrs. Bert Johnston; Low Lady, Mrs Helen Martin; High Man, George Johnston; Novelty Man, Mrs. Jim Coultes (playing as a man); and Low Man, Lewis Stonehouse. There will be euchre tonight, starting at 8 p.m.. Everyone is welcome.
