Clinton Morris need one more win
On Tuesday, March 18 at Mitchell, the
Clinton Atoms grabbed the first game in the
best -of -five series for the WOAA Atom CC
Championships by dumping Mitchell 5-3.
Clinton 5 - Mitchell 3
Clinton's nifty little centre, Mark Liver-
more paced the Clinton attack with two
goals. Shawn iChipchase, Scott Jewitt and
Jason Carter added the others.
The first period was scoreless as both
teams kept each other off balance with ex-
cellent checking. But in the second period
the pace seemed to open up a little more. At
the 3:18 mark, Mark Livermore gave Clin-
ton a 1-0 lead as he knocked in a rebound just
outside the goal crease from a blue line shot
off the stick of Scott Rathwell.
AT 6:05 Jason Carter made it 2-0 as his
backhand shot eluded the glove of the Mit-
chell goalie. Shawn Chipchase and • Scott
Jewitt had started the play at centre ice
before Carter took the backhand shot for the
goal. Forty-six seconds later Shawn Chip -
chase increased the Clinton lead to 3-0 as he
used Jason Carter as a decoy on a beautiful
two on one rush up the ice. Scott Wright

began the play by feeding Chipchase a long
pass up the ice.
In the third period Mark Livermore's 24th
goal of the season gave Clinton a comman-
ding 4-0 Lead at 2:35 as he deflected a Chris
Kennedy shot in from the right side of the
face-off circle. Scott Rathwell also earned
his second assist of the game. At this point
Clinton seem to relax a little and it cost
theas Mitchell scored two quick goals to
nary w the lead to 4-2. But with just under
two •nutes remaining in the game hard-
working Scott Jewitt gave Clinton their in-
surance marker. Jason Carter earned an
assist on the goal. With 30 seconds Left and
with their goalie sitting on the bench in
favour of an extra attacker Mitchell's
Duane Harmer scored the final goal to make
the score 5-3.
Clinton 2 - Mitchell 0
At the Clinton Community Centre on Mon-
day, March 24, the Clinton Atoms grabbed a
2-0 Iead in the best -of -five series against Mit-
chell as they hung on for a 2-0 victory behind
the shutout goal tending of Derek Hoggarth.
Time and, time again Derek came up with
the big save to preserve the victory. It ,was
Derek's eighth shutout of the season. •
In the first period Clinton got the only goal
they needed when Danny Wildfong scored
with eight seconds left in the period. Scott
Rathwell started the play as he broke down
the ice on a three on one rush with Mark
Livermore and Danny Wildfong. Just inside
the blue line Rathwell shovelled a nice pass
to Livermore who fed it to Wildfong at the
lip of the crease.
In the second period Jason Carter gave
Clinton the insurance goal they needed as he
scored on Shawn Chipchase rebound. It was
Scott Shaddick who engineered the goal by
keeping a clearing pass inside the blueline.
He passed to Chipchase for the shot and
Carter was there for the rebound.
Clinton ran into a terrible rash 'of
penalties in the third period as they
gathered six penalties. Twice they played
two men short but each time the strong Clin-
ton defence prevailed led by Shane Mac-
Donald, Scott Wright, Scott Shaddick, and
Scott Rathwell.
