Based on a true incident, Pack of Lies is both a searing story of international, es- pionage and an intense study of the private anguish of a family whose belief in the goodness of their neighbours was shattered. Moving and disturbing, this story of decep- tion and intrigue leads to the ultimate test of friendship and loyalty - betrayal of one's friends or one's country. Hugh Whitemore continually turns to historical and political events for the source of his dramatizations such as the highly - acclaimed Stevie, a play about the life of poet Stevie Smith, A Thinking Man as Hero, a biographical study of Wittgenstein' and Concealed Enemies, a play based on the Alger Hiss case. The cracking of the Peter and Helen Kroger Soviet spy case in 1961 held a particular fascination for Mr. Whitemore and he based Pack of Lies on this event. The fact that the innocent family in this case, who were very ordinary, hard working and law-abiding people, so closely resembled his ,own family intrigued Mr. Whitemore. He wrote Pack of Lies from their perspective using his own family as a role model. Prices range from $10 - $20. $10 rush seats are available for students and seniors.
