Kitchen nearing completion
MIDDLETON - Holy Communion was
held in St. James Middleton Anglican
Church with Rev. A. Bell in charge of the
services. Ron Gredanius was the organist
and Ray Wise and Edward Deeves received
the offering.
Thougtful Weekend will be held on March
7 and 8 at Trinity with Brother William at
9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. On
March 9, Brother William will read in Trini-
ty and St. James's at the regular. times.
At,St. James it'turns out that the crew who
tore out the old laths and plaster are nearly
finished all that remains is the ceiling and a
painting bee. This should be completed in
plenty of time for the Apple Blossom
Festival.
Mothering Sunday is to be held in St.
James's March 9.
Edward and Blanche Deeves travelled to
London one day last week to visit Rev:
William Bennett, the former Rector of Mid-
dleton Church. They had a cheerful visiti
with Rev. Bennett and he sends his best to
all at Trinity and St. James, and invites all
to visit at Central Park Lodge on Horton St.
London.
On March 6, a simnel cake baking party
will be held at the Rectory 10 a.m.
On March 7, World Day of Prayer will be
held at Andrew's Church in Bayfield at 2
p.m.
, On March 8. wardens treasurers, lay
delegates, worshop will be held at Holy
Trinity, Chesley. Welcome will be given by
Archdeacon Graham, wardens duties,
Muriel Henderson and treasurers duties,
Betty. Brown.
On March 17 a gustatory venturewill be
held by the ladies of Trinity Guild featuring
a geniune Irish dinner at Trinity Parish Hail.

Sympathy is extended to Bill and Lynda
Steenstra on the loss of Lynda's father Mr.
Pearson on March 3.
Happy birthday to Aaron Welsh on • his
third birthday from us at St. James' Mid-

Lames sew final stitches

KIPPEN-The quilt that was set up at
Frances Kinsman's home has now been
'completed. Those ladies quilting the final
stitches were Mildred McGregor, Gert

'Edna Caldwell, Grace Pepper, Grace
Drummond, Marlene Bell, Thea Wisch and
Frances Kinsman.
The Canadian Industries meeting will be
held on March 19 at 8 p.m. in Hensall United
Church. Roll call is to be answered by nam-
ing a tree and telling how it is used in Cana-
dian industry. The speaker will bp Carol
Steckle.
Personals
Rodger and Wilhemina Hoornaert have
returned from a four week trip to Holland;
Belgium and England. There was no snow in
the south of Holland or Belgium where they
visited with aunts and uncles, but when they
were in Watford' and London, England
visiting with cousins, Wilhemina said there
was snow on the ground but the sun was
shining, ..
The Energetic Eight met at the home of
Bob and Frances Kinsman on February 27.
Euchre was enjoyed with Phyllis' Parsons
winning the ladies' high, Margaret Hog-

VARNA - Residents from all over St. ley

eman and Mark Taylor in animal costaes

helped to get the crowd going, and the kids
danced up a storm, pausing just long enough
to fuel up at lunch time.
The door prize was won by Arnold Taylor, .
and there were several spot prizes. The
committee that planned this event was com-
prised of Gerald and Sandra Johnson, Bob
and Gail Turner and Stuart and Ruthanne
Steckle.
There is a possibility of this becoming an
annual event under the sponsorship of the
.recreation commission. The next ses-
quicentennial celebration is the kick-off
dance on March 22. The beard growing con-
test begins atthat time.
The annual Women*s World Day of Prayer
will be held in Goshen Church at 8 p.tn. on

The UCW wig hold their regular meeting
on March 11. Plans will be discussed for the
fall tupper and for a flea market so ladies
please plan to attend this meeting.
On the third Sunday of Lent, March 2,
Rev. Lorne Keays presided in the pulpit of
St. Andrew's United Church. His sermon
was The meaning of the cross. The Ministry
of Music was provided by the choir with
Barbara Cooper accompanying at the
organ.
World Day of Prayer service will be held
on March 7 at 2 p.m. in the Brucefield Chur-
ch. Everyone is welcome. .
There will be a Good Friday service at
7:30 p.m. on March 28 in the Brucefield
Church. The Sacrament of The Last Supper
will be observed at this service.

The first 4,Hmeeting of the Parr Line
Club for Etiquette for the 80s was held on
February 17 at Eleanor Coleman's home.
The meeting opened by repeating the 441
pledge. Three new girls, Lisa Heimpel,
Cheryl Turner and Jan Talbot, have joined
the club. The other members are Robyn
Norman, president; Heather Jackson vice
president; Colleen Keller, Christa Keller,
Julie Consitt, press reporter; Joanne Con-
sitt and Janet Coleman, phone girls; and
Julie Healy. For this club there will be a rov-
ing secretary.
Members discussed how to use proper eti-
quette with a friend, and some of the girls
demonstrated the proper way of shaking a
person's hand, and what you should say

Don and Deb Rathwell returned on
February 22 from a two-week vacation in
the West Indies. After a stormy trip to
Toronto, they flew to Santo porningo, ac-
companied by friends Tom an. Lynn Ha1I of
Kingston, and boarded the M.S. Azur for a
cruise. They stopped in at San Juan, St.
Thomas, St. Croix, St. Kitts, Antigua and
Guadeloupe, then docked at Bridgetown in
the Barbados where they spent a week at the
Heywoods Resort. They rented a jeep -type
of vehicle for a couple of days of sightseeing
and spent one day on the Jolly Roger,
another on a bus.
Men do the cooking for lady curlers
VANAST RA -Want a lesson in meal plann-
ing, unique cooking, elegant serving and
general kitchen routines. If so, just get in
touch with the men at the Vanastra Curling
Club. They once again catered to the Ladies'
Bonspiel on Saturday with scrumptious
food.
It was a super day with a Kincardinne rink
skipped by Anne Burton. winning the 9
o'clock draw, and a Vanastra rink skipped
by Audrey Triebner, with Doris Cantelon,
vice; Gwen Davis, second; and Eleanor
Henderick leading winning the 11 o'clock
draw. Both rinks received beautiful'wrist
watches donated by Anstett Jewellers.
Special draws were won by Mary Helen
McLachlan and Gwen Davis.
Winning door prizes and special prizes
were Sharon McNeilly, Barb Picot, Shirley
Carter, Marg Rogerson, Vera Miller and
Laurie Paquett.
The area was well represented by teams.

Seaforth, Exeter, Goderich, and 1iondon, as
well as Vanastra. _ --. ...
A rink skipped by Ken Rogerson, vice
Clair Cox, second Matt Haney, and lead
Laird Finlayson were the over-all winners
in a bonspiel in Exeter on Thursday, spon-
sored by Kongskilde Ltd.
Also a rink skipped by Bert Barker, vice
Joe Cooney, second Brian Hall, and lead
Bob Allan also were over-all winners in
Fergus on Saturday.
The first Novice Curling Tournament for
all Ontario was held 'in Harriston recently
with a rink from Vanastra participating.

The rink of Scott Townsend, William
Fotheringham, Murray Townsend, Jerry
McBeath with Brent Erb as spare, who won
the Huron -Perth Boys' Trophy, competed in
1.istnw 1 for the WOSSA championship. it
was super curling with our boys winning the
first two games, but losing to Listowel.
Nevertheless they should be congratulated
for their fine curling and for advancing so
far.
The Club's Second Draw has been com-
pleted with the,following results:
John Brownridge with his rink of Matt
Haney, Darrell Abbott and Doug Stirling
captured top place for the Men's League.
The overall wihners in the mixed, was a
rink skipped by Murray Adams, vice Sue
Beard, second Bill Cox, and lead Verna
Brodie,
Skipping the Juniors to top place was
Mark Cantelon's team with Brent Erb, Jane
Papple and David Hayter.
Eileen Townsend, Hilda Veenstra, Marg
Consitt and Judy Stuart were successful for
the Monday Afternoon Ladies' Draw while
Audrey Triebner's rink of Sheila Davis,
Judy Hall and Marlene Yeo captured top
place for the Wednesday Night Ladies.
