With the radiant sun beam- ing down, it wasn't a bad day at all! Let's keep our fingers crossed that it continues and March goes out like a lamb too. We could all give one big ROAR in exchange for the dirty weather and let it signify the lion for once! Now that. March is here and hopefully winter is winding down, the winter recrea- tional sports are doing the opposite. With the playoffs underway in both hockey and broomball, the men and women are literally winding up. Public Speaking On February 26, the Grades one and two gave their recitals which they chose themselves, and memorized for public speaking. They presented them to a keen au- dience in the gymnasium. The following is a list of the winners in each division, although each and every stu- dent deserves credit for having the courage to stand in front of an audience and speak. Grade 1, First - Zoey Onn; second - Beekey Morrison; third - Tara Wilson; honourable mentions, Mark Wilson and Jen- nifer Brigham. Grade 2, First - Chad Haggit; second - Darryl Shannon; third - Jody Button; honourable mentions - Michael Bailey, Wan- da Emke and Julie McNichol. Grade 3, First - Jody Medd; second - Marie Cronyn; third - Kimberley Ferguson; honourable mentions - Erica Clark, Kimber- ly Richmond and Pauline Stewart. The grade three students composed speeches and presented them. Ladies' Auxiliary On March 3, the Blyth Ladies' Auxiliary Branch 420, met for their potluck supper at the Blyth Legion Hall, with 24 members pre- sent. It was an informal evening, .with each member bringing a dish for supper. 'There was a great variety of foods to choose kern. After the meal; roll call was taken. For anyone who took part in Secret Comrades this past year, when their name was called, they were to try and guess who their Secret Comrade was, Each lady sends their,com- rade something in remembrance of special occasions such as birthday, anniversary, Christmas, etc. and a little something to finish the year off. Some ladies had it narrowed right down to the exact person, while others struck out! A brief meeting was then held. The quilt is now completed and will be on display in the. Goderich Mall on March 7. Tickets are now available and the draw is to be made at the upcoming penny sale. Numerous other business matters were touched upon, then the meeting adjourned with everyone having more coffee and desserts. Blyth Tykes On March 1 the Tykes played here at home against Lucknow. They played a close game, with Blyth leading with the first two goals. Goalie, Jason McDougall was put to the test though, with constant shots taken on net. Many unbelievable shots were kept out. Not being used to quite the workout as he had, Lucknow caught up and tied it. However, Blyth pulled through and went on. to defeat Lucknow 3 - 2. Scoring for Blyth this week were Jason Rutledge with two and Darryl Shannon with one. John Dalton scored twice for Lucknow. Blyth will be travelling to Clinton to par- ticipate in a tournament beginning on March 7, when they play Clinton at 6 p.m. Lost Heir There were six tables this week in atten- dance for Lost Heir. Mr. and Mrs. Millar Richmond each went home .with a .to , ep for r the eventing'. Ella was. the high ladY Mlle Millar was low man. Ray Madill was the high man while Alice Buchanan was low lady. Lost Heir resumes March 15 at the Memorial Hall at 8 p.m.. ' Euchre Twelve tables of euchre were enjoyed on March 3. The high lady for the evening was' Marjory East, and high man was Gordon Murray. Ida Proctor and Joe Holmes took the lows while Ester Moffit and Graham McDowell had the most lone hands. Come out March 10 at 8 p.m. for an evening of relaxation at the memorial hall.
