Festive atmosphere surrounds Blyth school
By Kathy Bromley
BLYTH - Last week, there was a winter
festival atmosphere at the Blyth Public
School. Both the teachers and the students
participated in numerous events, centering
around winter. On February 19, with the
mild temperatures, it was the ideal condi-
tions for snow sculptures, made by packing
snow, and for making snowmen. The
students were evenly distributed throughout
various groups, each consisting of students
from Grade 1 through to Grade 8. Their
talents were shown in the sculptures that
were created.
During the following afternoon, numerous
games were played outside by the Grades 4-
8. The remainder of the students were on-
lookers and went to each location for a short
observation.
On February 21, students were to bring
their lunches. Everyone was to bring as
many edibles that were white, signifying the
color of snow. The team who had the most
credited to them, won.
After lunch, everyone proceeded up to the
arena for an afternoon of skating, com-
pliments of the teaching staff. On February
28, they will be able to attend skating again,
as it is a Professional Development day.
Again, thanks to the teachers, it is free of
charge.
Note - After he • extremely cold
temperatures experre ced as of February
20, the -snow sculptures. can still be observed
at the north side of the school.
• Figure Skating
On February 21, a large crowd was out to
Figure Skating Achievement Night, at the
Blyth Arena, Numerous solos, along, with
each of the various groups showed their
talents. The special guest for the evening
was Kerrie Sheppard, a well-known skater
who has won numerous awards and com-
petitions. Kerrie is a, student of Seaforth
High School Unfortunately, due to the flu,
her skating partner, Peter MacDonald, was
unable to attend the performance. Kerrie
honored the crowd with two solos, which
were nothing short of excellent.
Adding to the evening was a special
feature - the "Smoothies". This group con-

Ananswer tothe stress
of RRSP investing.
That's the difference between an Industrial Growth Fund RRSP and
Guaranteed Investment Certificates over the past 18 years.
That's right, based on maximum annual RRSP contributions. your
$75.000 investment in Industrial Growth Fund would have grown to
$'417.455 - $228.450 more than the same investment in an RRSP
'omposedof 5 -year GICs.
Small wonder. Industrial Growth Fund's long-term record is
exceptional. kAverage annual compound rates of return: 18years -1S%.
10 years - 19.8%. 3 rears - 21.3%;1 year:- 29,3%1

It's the direct result of the conservative. but growth -oriented money
management philosophy of Mackenzie Financial Corporation. And it's
the answer to reducing the stress - and'increasing the returns - of your
