Dr. Salsbury talks to auxiliary about breast carer
CLINTON - At the February meeting of
the Auxiliary to the Clinton Public Hospital,
Dr. Peter Salsbury spoke to the members on
the topic of breast cancer. One out of nine
women develop breast lumps, and Dr.
Salsbury stressed the importance of giving
immediate attention to anything unusual.
Most lumps that are discovered are benign,
but if in fact, they are malignant, the sooner
the action, the greater the opportunity for a
positive result.
Helen Cooper expressed the gratitude of
the members in having such an informative
talk.
Donna Westlake announced the news that
the provincial government had given ap-
proval to the planned obstetrical wing and
their commitment to fund up to $400,000 of
the cost. Some funding will also come from
the county.

The federal government, in its Winter
Works Program, is giving a $60,000 grant
towards renovations of the old north section.
The new Accreditation Survey is taking
place in April.
Congratulations to Pat Muratori who has
become the second vice-president. Joyce
Chilton, president, informed the meeting
that Marny Walden has donated a dish to the
Auxiliary to be used in the new office.
The recommendations from the executive
meeting were read and discussed, following
which, all were accepted at the meeting.
Treasurer Roberta Plumsteel reported
that the Auxiliary books had been audited
and found to be correct. With a balance of
only $604 in the chequing account, the Aux-
iliary must entertain some fund raising pro-
jects in order to meet established com-
mitments. The budget is to be discussed at
the March meeting.
The report was given of progress Bernice
the quality assurance meeting.
Jewson, co-ordinator of the Teen Vohlnteer
program, mentioned that the teens no
longer wished to wear caps. The Capping
Ceremony at which honors are bestowed,
will now be known as the Teen Volunteer
Awards ceremony.
Gift Shop convenor, Evelyn Holmes, has
asked for vases for flowers such as brandy
snifters, baby containers or bud vases.
Dru Prescott, who, is back after an il-
lness, donated a crib quilt to.the gift shop.
Long term care convenor, Marg Caldwell
reported 22 hair sets in January, and a birth-
day party. Television convenor, Helen
Cooper announced that the cost of TV ren-
tals would increase from $2 to $2.50 per day,
an inexpensive way to watch your hockey
team play, even though you are hospitaliz-
ed.

GODERICH TWP - A delegation
representing the Gerry Ginn Memorial
Fund Committee, with Alison Lobb as
spokesperson, attended the Goderich
Township Council meeting on February 4.
She asked council if the Holmesville Ball
Park could be re -named the Gerry Ginn
Memorial Park.
Mr. Ginn, who died suddenly on January
13, was a former councillor' on Goderich
Township council and a former warden of
Huron County. He was also instrumental in
establishing the ball diamond and communi-
ty centre in Holmesville.
Mrs. Lobb also asked that a member of
council be appointed to the Gerry Ginn
Memorial Fund Committee. Council agreed
in principle to their request of the re -naming
of the ball diamond and appointed Reeve

In other business, a land severance re-
quest by Mr. G. Merner was approved by
council. •
Since the township did not use their quota
for tile -drain loans for 1985, council moved
that the limit imposed by the township be in-
creased to $20,000 as set by the province.
A bylaw to authorize a tile -drain deben-
ture of $11,500 for two owners was passed by
council.
The mileage for the road superintendent
was set at 32 cents per mile when using his
own vehicle on township business.
Council turned down an offer by Kenneth
Young to purchase the township lot in the
VLA. Council motioned the clerk to return
Mr. Young's cheque and confirm that the lot
is still for calf ata rust of $13 non.
A letter was received from the Clinton
Public Hospital outlining the status of the
hospital equipment and apparently re-
questing financial assistance from the'
township. Council agreed that a represen-
tative from the hospital attend a council
meeting.
Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Willis attended the
council meeting with detailed information
on the cost of snow clearance for a road on
Plan 12. No motions were recorded.
Twenty-six applications for the position of
building inspector have been received by
council. The applications were filed for a
special meeting on February 10.
Council issued building permits to Rodney
Culp for a house addition and Tony Davison
for an enclosed verandah.
Plans made for recreational park
STANLEY TWP.-Ed Gale, proprietor Of
Stanley Sales and Service, attended the
regular February session of Stanley
Township Council with a request for rezon-
ing to recreational of a parcel of land south
of Bayfield on Highway 21 he had previously
purchased from the township.
Gale showed,councillprs an artist's sketch
of part of his proposal to build a recreational
park which would include a three -acre fish
pond, a lake with paddle boats, a miniature
golf course, batting machines, and a struc-
ture which would be part private living
quarters and part public. The public section
would contain w ;shers and dryers.
Gale hopes to open the park in 1987.

Building Permits
The total value of building permits issued
during 1985 was $1,575,000, up dramatically
from 19844s $636,000. Fourteen new homes
valued at $942,000 were , constructed in.
Stanley last year -
Stanley councillors, unlike the rnajority.of
area municipalities, receive a lump sum as
annual remuneration, and do not collect any
extra stipend for attendance at special coun-
cil or committee meetings. Last year ReeVe
Paul Steckle received $3,447. Deupty Reeve
Don . McGregor and Councillors Howard
.Armstrong,.. Jack Coleman and. Clarence
Rau took home $2,865 each.
Clinton euchre winners
CLINTON - There was a good turnout on
February 22 for the senior and veteran
service euchre that was held at the Harry B.
Miner UCCG Branch 140. The first prize
winners were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jenkins of
Clinton. Lone hand winner was the team of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baker of Bayfield with
low score going to Dorothy Bezzo and her
partner Evelyn Hudie of Clinton.
The next euchre party will be held on
March 22. Registration time is 1:30 p.m with
action starting at 2 p.m. '
