Ontario's Great Lakes short-tertn
emergency shoreline management pro-
grams have been extended one year to
March 31, 1987 - Natural Resources Minister
Vincent Kerrio and Municipal Affairs
Minister Bernard Grandmaitre announced.
"Emergency shoreline management pro-
grams, including •low-interest loans to
private landowners for protective works,
were set up in June 1985 when record high
water levels on the Great Lakes caused ex-
tensive damage to properties on Lakes
Huron, St. Clair and Erie," said the
HonOunable Jack Riddell, MPI. for Huron -
Middlesex and Minister of Agriculture and
Food.' "Above-average levels are expected
again this year so the need exists to extend
the programs."
The ministers also announced the
establishment of a Shoreline Management
Review Cozndiittee to investigate long-term
approaches to shoreline management. The
members of the committee have yet to be
chosen but will include provincial and
municipal representatives as well as
representatives of the general public:
"This committee will examine options for
shoreline manugerrnent," Mr, Kerrie SOK
"It will also loot at the roles and respon-
sibilities of the various levels of govern-
inent, and of private landowners."
The Shoreline Property Assistance Act
program currently provides low-interest
loans to private property owners for up to 75
per cent of the cost of protective works and
repairs.
"I am planning on introducing an amend-
ment to the legislation governing this pro-
gram to allow owners of. properties in
unorganized municipalities to participate,
and to make loans available for raising or
Hullett Council compensates man with
HULLETT TWP. - Council here received a
request by a township resident for compen-
sation for sheep killed or injured by dogs in
the area at the council meeting on February
18.
Charles Snell appeared at the meeting and
asked council for compensation for three
purebred ewes which were in lamb and one
purebred not in lamb which were killed by
dogs recently. One of his sheep was also in-
jured in the attack.
Council agreed to pay Mr. Snell $300 for
each of ewes in lamb and $150 for the ewe
not in lamb. They will also monitor the
situation regarding the injured sheep.
Arnold Riley also attended the meeting to
di.russ gravelling Sideroad 15-16 in the
township at Mr. Riley's pond. Council ac-
cepted Mr. Riley's offer to supply fill and
gravel to build up the sideroad' with the
township to .provide a sewer from the outlet
at the Riley property to the crossroads and
to transport the donated gravel. When the
gravelling is finished, the road should be 4.5
feet above the top of the culvert.
Fred Lawrence and George Collins of the
Auburn Lions Club were at the meeting to
request a donation from council for a new
building. Council passed a motion to give the
Lions Club $1,500 for the building. The grant
will go to the Hullett Recreation Committee
earmarked for the Auburn Lions Club.

relocating buildings, as well as for repairs,"
Mr. Grandrnaitre said.
"The Ministry of Natural Resources
(MNR) will continue it technical advisory
service to property owners seeking to repair
shoreline damage," Mr. Kerrio said.
Mr. Grandrnaitre also said that additional
grants to municipalities may still be made
in cases where thecost of restoring or pro-
tectiLng essential services would place an un-
due financial burden on local taxpayers.
Mr. Kerrio said MNR will assist con-
servation authorities in the repair of their
flood and erosion control structures, and

The Ministry'• of Agriculture and F -will
assist with repairs to structures protecting
agricultural land. The Ministry ,of
Transportation and Communications will
deal with repairs to roads and bridges.
"We believe the extension of the existing
emergency programs, combined with public ,
discussion on long-range options, will result
in practical, immediate and long-term aolu-
tions to the serious high water problems
along the shores of the Great Lakes," Mr.
Kerrio said.

Harry Lear, the budget is approximately
$20,000 - the same figure as it was last year.
Council instructed the road superinten-
dent to apply for a supplementary road sub-
sidy from the Ministry of Transportation
and Communication for the final grader
payment and for the new pick-up truck.
Council also approved the Waste Disposal
Site Plan of Operation and Development for
the Blyth-Hullett Waste Disposal Site.

A bylaw was also passed by council tp
establish an interest rate on tax arrears and
penalty for non-payment of taxes at the
meeting. ,
Council amended a portion of a bylaw
which would exempt Auburn from their
assessment from Blyth Fire Area Board.
The village's five per cent assessment in the
fire area board will be picked up by Hullett
(two per cent), West Wa'vanosh (two per
cent) and East Wawanosh (one per cent).
Council also planned to invite a represen-
tative from the Londesboro Lions Club to the
next meeting to discuss future recreation
programs.
A bylaw was passed to sell land along cer-
tain road allowances in the township to the
County of Huron.
Council also authorized employee Bev
Shaddick to enroll in a Municipal Tax Ad-
ministration Program with the registration
to be paid plus mileage.

GODERICH TWP. - Anyone who has sub-
mitted a family story for the Goderich
Township Families book should know that
March 2 (2 to 4 p.m. at the Goderich
Township Hall) is the last official ,day for
proofreading. All stories have been put on
computer now, and the book is almost ready
to be sent away.
The committee expects the individuals
who have submitted the stories to assume
the responsibility for checking name spell-
ings, dates, etc. but would recommend that
as many people as possible read the stories
.before they go into print. That way as many
. errors as possible will be eliminated.
There are a number,=of .individua!S
asked to bring photos in late, and 1his°-is<also
the final date for submitting such photos.
Orders for the book can be taken that day
and people are reminded that they will'not
be assured a copy of this edition unless it has
been pre -ordered and pre -paid.
Remember, the final cost of this book will
be established by dividing the total costs by
the number of books ordered. At present the
book is expected to be a 350 page, 9" x 11'(',
hard -cover book and the cost will be approx-
imately $35 ($45 after publication). People
who have purchased in advance hate
already paid $30 and will pay the additional
$5 when they pick up the book. A large
number of undesignated books will not be
ordered, so make sure you have your copy
spoken for.
