More emphasis now on handsome groom
People often forget the gender of the
birds who wear the brightest plummage.
Can anyone find a vainer creature perch-
ed on two legs than the male peacock, as
it struts its brilliant colors before an
often disinterested female?
So much attention has been paid to the
bride's fashions that the poor groom has
had little chance to show his plummage.
But that's all changing.
The popularity of TV's macho Miami
Vice cops has proven that pastels are de
rigueur for work, play - even for wed-
ding attire.
Although tuxedo wear has come full
circle, with the majority of men now op-
ting for the traditional black tuxedo,
black tie and white .shirt, today's groom
is adding some daring dashes of color, a
trend unheard of five years ago, says
Harold Simpkins, vice-president of
marketing with Classy Formal Wear.
Colorful cummerbunds and bow ties
are so popular these days that stores
have trouble keeping them in stock:
Popular colors in Classy's 1986 accessory
collection include teal blue, fushia, royal
blue and more pastels in the green to

Through the influence of European styl-
ing
tyling from Italy and France, today's for
mal wear carries a stylishness, flare and
pizzazz not seen in North American styl-
ing a few years ago. Lapels are widenAng,
the gorge (the notch between the lapel
and collar) is becoming lower, thus drap-
ing the neck more, single pleated
trousers are big this year and jackets are
boxier looking than before with no vent in
back.

this year, was the Yves St. Laurent black
tuxedo with its European styling and
detail applied to a classical look.
Tuxedo orders for 1986 indicate a
strong demand for the traditional black .
tuxedo., available in. many styles. White
single or double-breasted dinner jackets
with black accessories are also popular
with his clients, while brown tuxedos are
no 'der in demand.
One interesting trend observed lately is
the growing number of men selecting
pocket puffs to wear with their tuxedos
instead of boutonnieres. Brides have seen
this styling in bridal magazines and want
something different for the groom. The
pocket puff, usually silk with a polyester
content, often matches the cummerbund
and bow tie.
It makes the tuxedo look very elegant.
The traditional black tuxedo is again
out -distancing other tuxedos at Freeman
Formal Rentals, although tuxedos in
several shades of gray run a close se-
cond, says Len Goldstein, vice-president.
Goldstein feels that tuxedo selection
has taken two major directions. Some
men will choose a traditional black or
gray tuxedo with a white shirt and use
their boutonniere as the only splash of
color.
The other side of the spectrum is "an
explosion of color and style," in ac-
cessories, he says.

Flowers
selected
for taste
How can a bride select flowers that will
give the perfect look for heAwedding?
The first step in choosing wedding
flowers is to find a good florist - one who
has been recommended or whose window
display you particularly admire. Then
you can work out answers to the follow-
ing questions:
• What is your budget? The florist can
tell you which flowers will be in season
and therefore less expensive at the time
of your wedding. Some wedding favorites
- gladiolus, baby's breath, roses, mums,
carnations, stephanotis, gardenias, cym-
bidium orchids - are available year-
round.
The florist can help you sort out
prioi: ities. For instance, if you have your
'heart 'set on a long, flowing cascade of or-
chids for your bouquet, you might have to
cut costs in other areas.
Besides the bride's bouquet, you'll need
bouquets for your honor.attendant and,
bridesmaids, boutonnieres for all the
men, corsages for both mothers and
flowers to decorate the ceremony and
r.
eption sites.
What flowers will best complement
yoar wedding? Give your florist a ..
description of your dress and your
bridesmaids' dresses so he can suggest
bouquets that harmonize in shape and
style.
Besides the classic nosegay or cascade,
you could carry a single long-stemmed
flower or a loosely tied
ar satches t fof blooms.
Also, bring along fabricw
give the florist an idea of your color
scheme. There 'are so many different
flowers, in every hue from dazzling pink
to soft sea blue, that you can find the
perfect ones to match or complement the
dresses your attendants will wear.
