Couples planning weddings in '86 can choose from the widest selection ever of contem- porary styles that will allow them to create exactly the mood they want. "The trend is to a classic and sophisticated styling that combines both European and North American in- fluences," reports Joseph Hecht, presi- dent of Classy Formal Wear. "The black tuxedo has always been popular. But this year's accessories add color and panache to achieve the 'Miami Vice' look, for ex- ample, with warm shades of magenta, teal and royal blue. It means grooms can personalize the way they look by adap- ting the traditional, styles to their own." Fabrics have become more sophisticated for '86 as well. Couples in the market to rent formal wear should look for black Italian shadow -weave, an all -wool fabric that creates a particularly rich effect. Using a single fabric, it gives the sense of a subtle stripe in the material and provides an interesting variation on the classic black tuxedo. Classy, Canada's largest formal wear rental company, features the Italian shadow -weave and a rich grey tuxedo in its new John Warden line. "John Warden has always been a . leading name in Canadian high fashion," Hecht said. "This year, we've achieved an industry breakthrough by bringing his exclusive designs to Canadian formal wear customers. And as in years past we'll also be featuring lines from Yves St. Laurent and Enrico Lumbrosi." Dinner jackets are also back, but with an interesting variation. The jacket is black and the trousers are striped. "Thin is one of the latest American trends," Hecht explained. "I think it will be very popular in Canada." People often forget the gender of the birds who wear the brightest plununage. Can anyone find a vainer creature than the male peacock as it struts its brilliant colours.. So much at- tention has been paid to the bride's fashions that the groom has had little chance to show his plununage, but that's all changing. The popularity of TV's macho Miami Vice cops has pro- ven that pastels are de rigueur for even wedding attire. ( photo by Colleen Maguire 13RIDAL REG 1 SIRY Ask about...
