In spite of blustery weather, busloads of
women arrived at Exeter United Church on
Monday, Jan. 27, for the annual meeting of
Huron -Perth Presbyterial of the United
Church Women.
One of the highlights of the event was an
address by out -going president, Muriel
Coultes, of Brussels, on her recent visit to
Cuernevaca, Mexico. She told the life stories
of several women there, and of their
desperate living conditions, quoting two
relevant passages from Ecclesiastes:
"What does man gain by all the toil at which
he toils under the sun?" and, 'Behold, the
tears of the oppressed, and they had no one
s annual meeting
to comfort them! On the side of their op-
pressors there was power!"
It was agreed that the offering for the day
be divided equally between the Mission and
Service, and the World Development and
Relief Funds of the United Church.
Reports of the year's work were presented
in the form of a Bible study on the day's
theme: "What does the Lord require of
me?" The appearance of the prophet Micah,
portrayed by Yvonne Vanslyke of Seaforth,
to interpret his words and message allowed
the Committee Chairpersons to explain the
relevance of their activities in doing justice,

CLINTON - On February 21, the Central
Huron Secondary School (CHSS) music club
will host their third Winter Music Festival.
This annual event draws choirs from Huron
and Perth Counties to a full day of rehear-
sals, workshops and performances -
culrninating in a concert beginning at 7:30
p.m. The concert will feature performances
by each choir as well as a presentation by
the combined choirs under the direction of
Robert Cooper, this year's guest conductor.
Mr. Cooper is an internationally known
conductor who is interested in youth choirs.
He is the conductor of the Toronto
Mendelssohn Youth Choir, founder of Youth
Choirs in Contact, a conductor for the Cana-
dian Opera Company, and an instructor at
the University of Toronto. In addition, he is
employed by CBC radio where he produces
( among other programs) Choral Concert.
This year, M. Cooper will be working
with the choirs to perform several choruses
from Vivaldi's Gloria. This dynamic music
will highlight the evening concert at which
each choir will also perform selections from
other repertoire.
The Sherlock -Manning Piano Company is
providing pianos for the workshop and the
parents' committee is providing lunch and
refreshments.
Members of the public are invited to at-
tend the evening concert in the CHSS
auditorium at 7:30. This is a unique event in
Ontario and an excellent opportunity to en-
joy first rate choral music.
