Plays go on tour ter schools
STRATFORD - Shakespearean romance
and history is on the road to Ontario schools
for the next 10 weeks. In -School Presenta-
tion: The Lake Plays of Shakespeare,. a 45 -
minute lecture/demonstration written and
directed by Stratford Festival Literary
Manager Elliott Hayes will begin touring
February 3 and will enjoy more than 200
presentations before closing April 11.
The program focusses on The Winter's
Tale,- Pericles, Cymbeline, and Henry VIII,
all productions scheduled for the Festival's
1986 season. None of the works are part of
the regular high school •, curriculum and the
program has been developed to assist both
teachers and students who will be attending
special school performances at the Festival
this season.
"I am delighted to see this project come
together," Festival Artistic Director John
Neville said. "It is an extension of the
educational mandate so important to the
Festival. It also allows us to introduce
students to these remarkable works - plays I
consider to be neglected masterpieces." -
Two pairs of actors will perform the pro-
gram, one pair based in Toronto and the
other in Stratford. Donald Adams and Sally
Singel, both members of the Festival's 1986

ing $1.7 million over last year in total pro-
vincial support to public libraries.

main source of revenue."
Each Ontario public library board „will
receive an increase of at least 4.2 percent
over their total grant amount of last year
calculated on a per household basis, using
statistics prepared by the Ministry of
Municipal Affairs. This increase represents
adjustments for inflation and any growth in
the number of households in municipalities.
The grant for public libraries in Southern
Ontario increases from $5,90 to $6.15 per
household. County libraries will continue to
receive a basic $25,000 grant.
Funding for Indian band libraries will re-
main on a per capita basis, with increases
from $2.33 to $2.43 per capita in Southern On-
tario and from $2.54 to $2.67 per capita in
Northern Ontario.
"The increased funding reflects our com-
mitment to maintain the high standards On-
tario residents have come to enjoy from
their libraries," the Minister added.
