People across Canada
prepare for Heart Month
February is Heart Month in Canada.
Across the province, canvassers will be
out solicitating your donation to fight
Canada's Number One killer, heart disease
and stroke.
Huron County is no exception. According
to Barney Goldsmith, Campaign Chaii•►nau
for the Heart Fund, the canvassers for the
county are ready to go thanks to the work of
dedicated campaign chairs in each com-
munity.

community campaign chairs ore Verna

W1NGHAM - Voice fur Life of Wingham
and Area held its January 13 meeting with
10 board members present. President John
Van den Assem opened the meeting with
prayer.
The treasurer reported many donations of
money over the past few months were made
in support of the group's advertising pro-
ject. The group had sponsored about 50 com-
mercials during the months of October and
Nevem The conunercials featured Dr.
Bernard Nathanson, a former abortionist,
who came to realize the grave injustice that
abortion is and became a strung pro -lite ad-
vocate. These conunercials will be seen
again on Channel 8 during the months of
February and March.
The feedback un the conunercials hf'll
been positive and encouraging. The group
has fulfilled requests for literature from
students in the area looking for material to
help thetas with projects.
Ols.F'ebruary 25 the group will show the
film The Silent Scream at the invitation of
the C'WI., the time and place to be announc-
ed. This showing will be open to the public.
'l'he SilentScream depicts an actual abor-
tion as seen by ultra sound.
It was gratifying to report that a call had
been received from a Huron County resident
•ing to take in a troubled pregnant girl
both efore and after the birth of her child.
The t,roup also received a donation of
maternity clothes. 'l'hese matters were put
into the hands of the local Birtheight
organization. Birthright provides free con-
fidential support, including legal, medical
and practical aid to distressed pregnant
girls and women.
Pro -lifers in the area continue to picket
the Morgentaler abortuary. Many young
people have requested to join in the
picketing.
The group discussed the refusal of
Attorney-9euerat Ian Scott to close the il-
legal Morgentaler clinic. He has refused to
do so because the case is before the courts.
The obvious remedy to enforce a law while
charges are pending before a court is to app-
ly for bail conditions. We ask, "Why is Mr.
Scott ignoring his legal remedies in this
case?"
The 1986 memberships are now due.
