W t1JARY 5.1986 ---Pave 15 Atoms unbeaten in 15 CLINTON - The Clinton Atoms battled Elma-Logan in an exhibition game to a 5-5 draw in Clinton on February 3. Jason Carter scored his first of two goals at the 34 second mark of the first period. His shot deflected in off a defenceman. Shawn Chipchwe and Scott Jewitt earned assists on the play. Jeremy Smith tied it for Elma- Logan and, before the period ended, Chris Kennedy fed a perfect pass to Mark Liver- more in the clear and Livermore made no mistake on the breakaway as he deked the goalie to one side before depositing the puck into the empty corner. Jason Carter gave Clinton a 3-1 lead at 6:3 mark of the second period as he scored on a rebound of a Shawn Chipchase'shot. With the score tied 3-3 in the third period Scott Jewitt1ave Clinton a 443 lead at 2:59 as his wrist shot found the right corner after Elma-Logan made a nice save on back-to- back shots by Chipchase 'and Carter. Two minutes later Danny Wildfong and Mark Livermore combined on a two on,pne break with Wildfong cashing in on the play to in- crease Clinton's lead to 5-3: But, Elma-Logan never gave up and stormed back with two unanswered goals in the last six minutes of play. Only a sensa- tional save by Derek Hoggarth and a lucky goal post with three seconds left kept the Atoms unbeaten streak intact. In that stretch they have won 14 and tied one. What has made this even more remarkable is that this purebred Arabian had almost double the paints of his nearest competitors and was only started as a park horse after the show season was half over, . The trophies were presented at the annual meeting of the Arabian Horse Association of Eastern Canada, held in Peterborough on January 18. , In addition to these two great wins, confir- mation was received that Synnamo had achieved his Legion of Honor. This is the first level of the International Arabian Horse Association's Award Program. To gain this honor, Synnarno accumulated 75 points at approved shows. Of over 250,000 registered horses, only 860 horses have reached this level. Synnamo's Legion of Honor was presented in a celebration at the Royal Winter Fair, which also • honored trainer Carolyn deBoer, grooms Jean Dinsmore and Jane Guse, owner Robyn and others who contributed to an incredible year.
