The return of Brian Cooper was noticed as he led the way with three. Rob Chapman and Darin Telford each had a pair as the single went to Rob Boyes. Rob Burt was the Blades marksman pick- ing up two, as Brian Johnston, Brad Holmes and Brad Bagot had the singles. Game two saw the Hawks slow the Varna Racers to a walk by a 10-4 margin. Fred 'Rocky Schilbe showed his true form as he a hammered in three big goals for the Hawks. John Stanley continued his torrid pace as he also had three, Steve Telford had two while Tim West and Stu Asher made the singles. Scoring for the Racers were Scott Consett, Lorne Taylor, Dale Stephenson and Alan Taylor. The early game on January 31 saw the Varna team slip past the Blades 4-3. Bill Stephenson paced the Racers with a pair as Lorne Taylor and Alan TXylor each scored singles. Scoring for the Blades was Brad Bagot, Ron Burt and Jim Fleming. Bill Courtney and Paul McKee led the Hawk attack with two 'each while Mike Clarke Stu Asher and Steve Telford had singles. John Graham and Ed Fogarty scored for the Puckers. Minor Hockey Last week's game was cancelled, but the Novice team is scheduled to play Huron Park on February 7 and Zurich on February 8. Varna residents take part in card party By Mary Chessell VARNA - There were 16 tables of euchre at the Orange Lodge card party on January 31. Prizes for ladieshigh and low were won by Margaret Thorndike and Margaret Hess. Men's high and low went to Art Alexander and Ed.Strachan: Draw prizes were won by Joan Beierling, Susie Pollock, Mrs. Grant Love, Margaret Thorndike, Margaret Dowson and Freida Moore. Mark Taylor has confirmed that he will take on the responsibilities of a church steward. Bob Webster is the other new steward. Time is 8 p.m. The pancake supper is February 11 ( see ad) . Several people from Varna and Goshen were guests at a tea at the home of Hiep and Tai Nguyen in Huron Park on February 1. It was held in honour of Hiep's sister Hau and her fiance Hung who are being married in Toronto on February 16. Koene rink takes first place BAYFIELD-The curlers ended their regular curling season on January 27. Joe Koene and rink placed first for the season. On the all man team, Joe had Grant Turner as lead, Ray Vodden, second, and Bob Madsen as vice. Alice Brandon and team won their last four games, moving from fourth position to second place. Alice had Joan Cluff as lead, Paul Gosse, second, and Jim Koene as vice. In third place was Bill Mcllwain and rink. Bill had Louise Rogers as lead, •Paul Mulligan, second, and Bill Fry as vice. The Matty Francis team, skipped by Nor- ma Gose and Brian Semple placed fourth. Ken Hughes was second and Tara Cluff lead. In fifth position was George Telford and rink. Ede Turner was vice, Marie Hughes, second, and Irvin Amaraal as lead. Bob Rogers and rink placed sixth. Bob's vice was Madelan Mcllwain, second Marion Graham and lead Dave Ray. The next two Monday nights will be playoffs. Total points will decide the win- ners. The Mystery Draw donated by The Village Guild was won by Norma Gosse. Burns Bonspiel Two teams from Bayfield entered the Robbie Burns Bonspiel in Seaforth on January 22. In the 8 a.m. draw, Matty Francis and rink placed second for the day. Matty's team had Madelan Mcllwain as lead, Joan Cluff, second, and Marg Makins vice. In the 11 a.m. draw, Alice Brandon and rink consisting of Louise Rogers, lead, Nor- ma Gosse, second and Barb Luck, as vice, tried hard to win the last two games, but lost each game by one point. The curlers were piped on to the ice and 40 for dinner, the traditional Haggis was serv- ed. Norma Gosse and Madelan Mcllwain took home door prizes and Louise Rogers won the floral centre piece. Senior choir leads service at Holmeville By Blanche Deeves HOLMESVILLE - Morning Worship Ser- vice, in the Holmesville United Church was very well attended with Rev. James Bechtel in charge. The senior choir led in the ministry of Music. Rev. Bechtel spoke to children before going to classes. Larry Rutledge and Douglas Yeo received the offering. The Hohnesville Church was saddened with the news of the death of Rev. Bechtel's mother. Sympathy to the Bechtel family. On January 27, Alice Porter,' Kay Harris and Charlotte Norman attended Huron - Perth Presbyterial meeting in Exeter where Alma Langford was installed as the new president. Ahna is a former resident of this area. The UCW of Holmesville United Church will meet February 11 at the church. New in Holmesville United Chruch: A Young Women's UCW will be formed with the first meeting to be held during the even- ing of February 11. Enterprising Seniors The Enterprising Seniors met January 30 in the Community Centre in Holmesville with Bert McCreath in charge. Charlotte Norman played the piano for the opening ex- ercises. Bert welcomed six new members then roll. call was taken. Charlotte read the minutes of the last meeting which were approved as read. Frank Yeo gave the treasurer's report. Correspondence was read with a thank you from Ann Avery. A motion made to pay Star Membership and rent for the hall. Hazel McCreath reported that four quilts are to be done. Forms were received for Stan -Lee Seniors' Shuffleboard Tournament which is to be Meed on Apra 23.
