Rates set for Blyth Memorial Hall
By Kathy Bromley
BLYTH • The first meeting of the new
year for the Blyth Memorial Hall Commit-
tee was held on January 7 with a good atten-
dance of representatives from the different
organizations in town.
The main topic was the rental rates, these
were reviewed and the following rates were
set to become effective March 1. Summer
Festival, $210 per week, this includes Sun-
days. Theatre office, winter months, $65 per
month; Main basement and kitchen, $55;
Upstairs Auditorium, Basement and Kit-
chen, $85; Auditorium, outside groups, $85;
Practice for outside groups, $35;

local groups, $10; Blyth Lions Club, $20;

Club, Horticultural Society, Blyth Senior
Citizens, $10 for each of these groups.
Plans were made for the upcoming craft
show, flea market, and bake sale to be held
March 15. Anyone wishing to, book space or
information, call Kay Hesselwood. This is
an annual event to raise money to keep the
kitchen in the hall adequately stocked. Last
year approximately $250 was raised for this
purpose and several new things have been
purchased to make the kitchen more effi-
cient for catering. •
Please be sure you or your alternate
representative is out to the next meeting,
January 28 at 8 p.m. in the meeting room at
the hall. Participation by groups involved
with the hall is most important.
Church News
Bill and Cheryl Tomlinson and Steve of
Bayfield were guests at the Blyth United
Church service January 26. The Tornlinsons
are active members of Middleton Anglican
Church. Cheryl is hostess at the Little Inn in
the centre of Bayfield, and is a lady of many
talents.
Mrs. Tomlinson demonstrated God-given
story -telling talents at the children's time
and also, her musical talent when she sang a
solo accompanying herself on guitar.
She gave a message from the pulpit which
was heartwarming. Others taking part in
this service were: readers - Dr. Lavern
Clark, and Rev. Ken Bauman; choir anthem,
"O Magnify The Lord with Me." Junior Con-
gregation - Fay Bolger. Hymn Sing -
Leaders, Cheryl Cronin, Margaret, Kai and
Diane Wasson; ushers and greeters -
Harvey and Deanna Snell, John and Rita
Blake and Evalena Webster.
Tremor Effects
The effects of the tremor that hit mid-
western Ontario on January 31 were felt at
the Bromley's. At approximently 11:45 a.m.
I sat down in a chair in the living room to
have a cup of tea and watch television
before the children were home for lunch.
A few minutes later, I suddenly heard a
rattling sound and my chair shook
somewhat, sending a tingling throughout
my body. There seemed to be nothing that
you could really visualize where I was. I
never thought anything more about it - being
as my washing machine has a tendency to
shake when it's beginning the spinning cy-
cle, if the clothes are not evenly distributed
throughout the washer. I presumed that was
the theory for the rattling.
As for the shaking, I felt in the living
room, I took it for granted that my husband
was moving something around upstair.
Again, I didn't think anymore about that
either. Until my husband carne out of the
washroom - he had been downstairs all this
time!
At this point, the kids were home for lunch
and I never thought anything more about it.
Later I was told of the tremor and was told
of the news bulletin on the television. I then.
came to the conclusion, that what I ex-
perienced was likely related to the tremor,
after all.

That's the difference between an Industrial Growth Fund RRSP and
