"With the type of climate we have, pa-
tients deserve a first Blass health care
system," she said, commenting on the
winter driving conditions.
New"Facility
To date, plans are to build the new 5,200
square foot obstetrics wing over the
emergency 'care section of the hospital.
"We've Looked for the best location and
at the best costs. The architect looked at
building it over the '62 wing but it was in-
adequate space wise and it wasn't proper
for the work flow," said Mr. Steyn.
Although the new wing will not provide
additional beds, it will improve the
facilities.
"It will be the most modern concept. The
facility will be geared to a combination of
hospital and home type delivery in an at-
mosphere of expert medical care," Mr.
Steyn explained.
Once the wing is in full operation, it is
anticipated that a few new jobs will be
created.
The present chronic care -obstetrics floor
will .be renovated and upgraded for
rhrnnie para (mop the new wino iq hnilt and
in operation. •
"Renovations for the chronic care and
upgrading of their services are also badly
needed. They don't have ideal conditions
either," said Mr. Steyn. •
Plans are to upgrade the washroom
facilities, add a small dining room, chair-
dresser and a lounge.
Community Support
With approximately $300,000 to be rais-
ed, the CPH directors and public relations
committee will need the support of those
within the community and the first step is
to find a fund raising chairman.
"We're looking for a fund raising chair-
man who is dynamic, dedicated to the pro-
ject and knows about the need for the
wing," said Mr. Steyn. "The person will
also have .to be willing to give their time
(to the project) ," added Mrs. Fear.
The excitment of the new obstetrics wing.
has already reached the CPH staff and
doctors as they anticipate the opportunity
of working under new conditions. It is
hoped this enthusiasm will spread to the
public so the $300,000 goal can be reached.
