Mustangs protest Howick game
Suspended

CLINTON - The Mustangs apprdached
their game on January 24 against Howick
with the hope of putting more distance
behind Mitchell in the race for a playoff
spot. However, they had to settle for a 4-4 tie
with last placed Howick ilii a game played
here on January 24.
But, the Mustangs may still get that extra
point after all.
After the game, the Mustangs launched a
protest against Howick and if the protest is
upheld, it may give Clinton the game. Ac-
cording to Mustangs' Manager Bryan Mar-
riage, Howic1, were .using a. player (No.20
,Jeff , Fisk), Who'tWas ,udder suspension. Apr
,parently,, he had, served only one game of a
two -game suspension coming into the game
with Clinton.
Mr. Marriage says the , Mustangs will
learn by January .31 whether the protest is
upheld' or not by the Ontario Hockey.
Association (OHA) Board of Directors who
are meeting on January 29 in Cambridge.
"That one extra point could mean the dif-
ference between us or Mitchell making the
playoff," he said. '
Currently, the Mustangs are sporting a 12
wins, 19, losses and 4 ties record which puts
them five poets ahead of Mitchell for the
fourth and final playoff spot in the Western
Junior D northern division.
Clinton 4 - Howick 4
Some big third -period saves by the
Howick goaltender prevented the Mustangs
from getting the win they needed. After
Clinton opened up . a "big lead after two
periods, the Howick squad came back in the
third period to earn the 4-4 tie.
"I think we " played a bad third
period...They got some, good goaltending. -
Not that ours was bad but their's was
superior. We had about 20 shots in the last
period but we couldn't score a goal," said
Mr. Marriage.
The Mustangs opened the score within the
first minute of play. Dan Horton scored at
the :40 second mark with Dean Armstrong

mark, Clinton. opened up a 2-0 lead with a
goal by Dean Armstrong assisted by Wayne
Smith.
Twenty-six seconds later, Howick scored
to make it a 2-1 game after the first period.
The second period belonged to the
Mustangs as they scored the only two goals
of the period. Bob Snell scored sit the half-
way point with Brad Hymers drawing an
assist. Two minutes later, Clinton took a
commanding 4-1 lead with a goal by Bop
Dupee with Ron McKay and Brad Hymers
