Staff Workshop A Sunday School staff Workshop• was held Sharon Wurm was elected congregational secretary. Those elected to the official board were Eric Mansfield for a two year term. For a three year term were Wayne Corbett; Steven Corbett, Tim O'Brien, Dorothy Brintnell, Ross Corbett, Mona Alderdice, Harold Parsons, Mary Kinsman and Sherry Dayman were elected. Presbytery delegates will be Elva Forrest and Mary Kinsman. Auditors are Shiela Reaburn and Sharon Doxtator with Dorothy Corbett as the treasurer and Jean Jacobe as the envelope steward. During the panel discussion of the work and service of the church throughout 1985, the chairperson of each division told some of the highlights of their divisions work and received questions from the con regation. The reports showed 16 weddings were held, with 10 baptisms and 34 funerals. Six- teen people were received into the chrch through transfer or confirmation and 11. were removed by death and four by transfer. Thee through -the -week Christi n Education Groups as well as the Sund Church School were all well attended and bursting with enthusiasm. The Communica- tions and Mission • Outreach Division spoke of the successful fellowship nights held as well as the minute for Missions each month and also encouraged everyone to subscribe to The Observer, the official United Church Magazine. The stewardship and finance division ex- pressed appreciation to the congregation for the very strong dedication to stewardship, making this one of the best years financially in the history of the congregation. The wor- ship division expressed appreciation to the organist Belva Fuss and the choir members for their dedication in leading the ministry of music in the congregation .and to Mr. McDonald for his inspiration and leadership in the church and his outreach into the com- munity. Jean Jacobe presented the 1986 budget with the congregation accepting a budget. of $71,000 for 1986. Everyone was reminded 1986 is the centennial year of, worship in the church building and the many activities were outlined for the ye'ar, centering around the main anniversary ser—Vise on November 16. At the close of the evening the congrega- tion presented Mr. McDonald with a gold cross and neck chain in appreciation of his dedication and leadership during the year. Missionary speaks at church By Blanche Deeves MIDDLETON- Morning prayer was held in St. James Middleton Anglican Church on January 26. Rev. Bell spoke to the children on how the men worked on the church base- ment. After taking a large rock they found water. Tessa Steenstra received the Sunday School collection. Jeff Hain read the two les- Sions. The congregation listened to Rev. Robert 9111. Witmer, a missionary for the United Church in Japan. Rev. Witmer, native of Zurich and Goderich and cousin of Audrey Middleton, gave a sermon on his life and work in Japan since 1969. Bill _ Steenstra and Edward Deeves received the offering. Following the service everyone gathered in the church hall for coffee and fruit breat and enjoy the slides of Japan. The schools, churches, cars and paved roads where Rev. Witmer lived proved to be similar to those in Huron County. Bill Steenstra thanked Rev. Witmer for coming and wished him good luck in his next endeavours. The Big Dig Thanks to the weather this week, a con- siderable amount of work has been done under St. James' Church. Thanks to Wise Construction Co. and to all gentlemen o n the shovel a large amount of red clay has been dumped, gravel has been placed and level- ed, beams put in place, pillars erected - all in readiness for a kitchen for the ladies of St. James. On February 13 at 7:30 p.m. the meeting of the chancel guild for St. James will be held prior to. the regular ACW meeting at the church. Meeting will be held at Delores Dutot's. People Guests with Don and Audrey Middleton on January 26 were Rev. Witmer his wife Keiko and children Manna, Nathan, and Martin; Judy White; Brian and Jason of London: Manford Maurer of Goderich; Mrs. Jervis, Kelvin Jervis, Mr. and Mrs. Campbell McKinley. Don and Audrey's family were all at home, minus three. All together they had 25 for dinner. Apple Blossom Festival Watch for the Apple Blossom Festival corning in May to the Middleton area.
