met at the home of Margaret Hoggarth 'on
January 15 with President Grace Drum-
mond presiding. Following the opening ex-
ercises, Mrs. Druinanond gave a reading on
new years resolutions. Eileen Townsend -and
Joyce Wilson, who led the 4-H Club, were
presented with gifts by Mona Alderdice, and
described the material given in the last club

Margaret Hoggarth presented some , in-
teresting data on the 6,500 Junior Farmers
in Ontario whose aim is self-help and com-
munity betterment.

Rev. Brown resigns

VARNA - Rev. Wilena Brown announced
on January 19 that she is resigning from this
charge. While she announced that she would
be leaving the end of May, that date is in-
definite. Miss Brown has been here for
Seven years. She plans to spend the summer
studying and writing a book. There are
many of her flock who feel a deep loss, as
she is a good preacher, and an excellent
counsellor and understanding listener for
those who went to her with their problems.

CLINTON - The January 15 meeting of the
Huronia Branch of the Ontario Humane
Society was held at Catherine McKnights.
An agent has still not been found to handle
any abuse complaints for the area.
Suggestions were made to start a filing
system of up-to-date members of the
Huronia Branch so notices could be sent out
each month to members that are due. The
notices will also have a place to check if they
would be willing to volunteer to help out oc-
casionally if needed.
The Gund Bear was won by Valerie Van
Riesen of East Street, Clinton. The
December 21 draw was made by Mayor
Balfour.

1986, Anna Marie Wise of Clinton in her 90th
year. Beloved wife of the late Herbert L. Wise
(1950). Dear mother of Harold, Alvin and John
Wise all of Clinton. Predeceased by one son
Glenn (1968). Dear sister of Betty Elliott of Lon-
don, Margaret (Mrs. Don Ferguson) of London,
Gwen (Mrs. Pete Shoebottom) of London, Joan
Elliott of London, Fran (Mrs. Don McLean), Sur-
rey, B.C., Mervin Elliott of London. Predeceased
by 5 sisters Kathleen, Florence, Mary, Winnifred
and Jean, 3 brothers, Graham, Jack and Joe.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 12 great-
grandchildren. At the request' of Mrs. Wise her
remains are bequeathed to science. A memorial
service was held on Sat., Jan. 18, 1986 from the
Wesley Willis United Church, Clinton commenc-
ing at 1:30 p.m. James Bechtel officiated. Dona-

January 16, 1986, Mrs. Annie (Richardson)
Noakes, of the Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich,
formerly of 121 King Street, Hensall, in her 88th
year. Beloved wife of the late E. Archibald
Noakes (1976). Dear mother of Leonard. of Hen-
sall, Lloyd of Mt. Brydges, Kenneth of Hamilton,
Mrs. Frances Siemon.of California. Mrs. Noakes
is predeceased by 1 daughter Helen (Mrs. Earl
McKellar) (1970), 4 brothers and 1 sister. Also
surviving are 26 grandchildren, several great-
grandchildren and 2 great -great-grandchildren.
Visitation in the Hensall Chapel of Michael P.
O'Connor Funeral Homes, 118 King Street, Hen-
sall, where the funeral service was conducted at

At Huronview on Monday, January 20, 1986, Mrs.
Lyle Pinner of Clinton, in her 102nd year. Beloved
wife of the late G.W. Pinner. Dear sister of Julia
(Jewel) Steven of Huronview. Also survived by
three nephews, Elliott, Bruce and Doug Bartliff,
all of Clinton. Predeceased by one sister Annice
Bartliff and one brother Harry Bartliff. At the re-
quest of Mrs. Pinner, there was no funeral home
visitation. A private funeral service was held at
the Ball & Falconer Funeral Home, 153 High
Street, Clinton on Tuesday afternoon: Cremation
with interment of ashes later in Clinton

An extra meeting is scheduled for
January 30 to discuss plans to promote the
Royal Lipizzan Horse Show coming ' to
Goderich May 25-26. Volunteers are needed
to work on the different committees.
The annual open meeting will be held
February 5 at the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food Office, Clinton. It is
hoped that volunteers will sign up for fund
raising help and for temporary homes need-
ed until permanent ones are found. At this
meeting the new board of directors will be
elected.

United Church News
The service on January 19 at St. Andrew*
evolved around the sacrament of Holy Com
munion with Rev. Lorne Keays in the pulpit,
and Barbara Cooper providing the music at
the organ. Kippen's annual congregational
meeting is on February 9.
About Young People
Jerry Faber, son of Anita and Russell
Faber, is going to �chool at Fanshawe in
London, and training; to be an electrical
engineering technician'.
Dave Vanneste, son of Simonne and
Marcel Vanneste, is furthering his studies at
London Technical School, where he is taking
a course on welding.
