The Clinton ers fared exceptionally well at the competition. Lori Powell was a gold medal winner in the compulsory movies and, finished fifth in the prepared solo. Jody Merner earned a silver medal in the compulsory movies and finished fifth in the prepared solo in her divi sion. Jacquie Draper placed sixth in the compulsory movies and placed fifth in the prepared solo. On January 11, 50 skaters and mothers, Carol Fox, and two coaches enjoyed a smorgasbord dinner in honor of the in- termediate and senior awards banquet. ( Alan Rivett photo) Atoms reach final's in tournament • The Clinton Atoms qualified to play in the Seaforth Optimist Atom "B" championship game against Walkerton this Sunday after- noon at 3:30 p.m. by winning two games this past weekend. In the first game last Friday evening Clin- ton defeated a strong Lambeth team by a 4 - this season. Their only previous loss was in a tournament which they lost in a shoot-out. tournament which they lost in a shoot-out. Clinton played a strong two-way game as they took advantage of some miscues made by Lambeth. Derek Hoggarth played another strong game between the pipes. Clinton 4 - Lambeth 1 IN the first period at the 4:17 mark, Jason Carter gave Clinton a 1- 0 lead as a clearing pass from Shawn Chipchase deflected Off his 'skate into the net. • Clinton grabbed a 2 - 0 lead at 4:35 of the second when Jason Carter scored his second goal of the game after a wild scramble it1 front of the Lambeth goal area. Down but not out, Lambeth struck early in the third period at the 37 second mark to cut Clinton's lead to 3 - 1 and spoil Derek Hog- garth's bid for a shutout. With 4:33 Left in the 4110 game, Scott Jewitt, who turned in another fine performance, added his second goal of the game on some pretty passing with linemates Jason Carter and Shawn Chip - chase. Clinton 4'New Hamburg 3 In their second game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon the Clinton Atoms -hung on to defeat a determined New Hamburg team by a score of 4 - 3. In the first period,"Scott Jewitt gave Clin- ton an early lead as he converted passes from Shawn Chipchase and Shane Mac- Donald. But, before the period had ended New Hamburg scored two goals to grab a 2 - 1 lead. There was no scoring in the second period as both teams missed numerous chances. In the third period, with only 34 seconds gone, Scott Jewitt's powerplay goal evened ' the score at 2 - 2. Chris Kennedy earned an assist on the goal. Less than a .minute later and six seconds apart goals by Danny n -two big wins aWildfong-2le and Shawn Chipchase gave Clinton a 4 - 2 lead. They took a big step towards post -season .play by winning two• of three games over the weekend: Clinton recorded wins over division rivals Brussels by a 8-3 score, and Howick by a 10-5 margin on January 17 and 19, respectively. Their loss came at the hands of Tavistock by a close score of 7-6 on January 18.
