will hold their Cultural Activities meeting
on January 15 at 8 p.m. at the home of Al and
Margaret Hoggarth. Roll call to be
answered by "A Way to make our daily life
a pleasure."
United Church News
Rev. Lorne Keays presided in the pulpit of
St. Andrews on January 5 - Epiphany Sun-
day. His sermon was entitled "Just over ,
Christmas? Well here's another one
Frances Kinsman accompanied the hymns
on the organ. The Sacrament of Holy Com-
munion will be observed on January 19. The
Annual Congregational meeting for Kippen
Church will be observed on February 9. The
executitre of The United Church Women will
be installed Jnhuary 12.
Kippen Scholars
Julie Wright, daughter of Evelyn Wright,
left on January 3 for Calgary, Alberta where
she will spend the next four months working
for The Nova Oil Co. Julie will then continue
her studies in May at Sir Wilfrid Laurier
University.
Linda Roberts, daughter of Helen and Ted
Roberts, has returned to Fanshawe College
London to continue in her third year of` Ad-
ministrative Studies.
Shelley Finlayson, daughter of Ruby and
Laird Finlayson, has' returned to Marvel
Beauty School in London where she is train-
ing for a course in hairdressing.
Jim Parsons, son of Phyllis and Harold
Parsons, recently completed an eight- week
course at Fanshawe College in London,
finishing his third term in Electrical Techni-
cian Studies. Jim will resume working with
J.M.R. Electric of Exeter.
Paul Hoggarth, son of Al and Margaret
Hoggarth, starts a four month work term at
Champion Road Machinery in Goderich.
Paul is studying in Mechanical Engineering
Technology at Mohawk in Hamilton.
Greg Hoggarth, son of Al ,and Margaret
Hoggarth, has been assigned to St. Andrews
College in Aurora - where he will assist the
math. teacher for the next four months
before returning to the University of
Waterloo.
Nancy McGregor, daughter of Mildred
and Ronald McGregor, has returned to the
University of Waterloo where she is study-
ing a general arts course.
Yesa Wisch, daughter of Thea and Uwe
Wisch, is at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University
studying accounting.
Lisa Hoonaert; daughter of Wilhemina
and Rodger Hoonaert, returns to Westervelt
Business College in London to further her
studies on computers.

Rosemary McGregor was able to 'return
home from hospital on Christmas Day. .
Greg, Paul, and Janet Hoggarth arrived
home safely through the storm in the wee
hours of Monday morning, after a 15 -hour
drive from Quebec City, where they had
been skiing at Mt. St. Armes for a week.

Lioness
prepare
for carnival

VANASTRA - January 9 is the first mon-
thly dinner meeting of the new year for the
Vanastra and District Lioness Club. The
winner in the Cabbage Patch Twin draw,
that was held December 18, was Barb
Hodgins of Vanastra.
Winter Carnival
February is the date of the Lion and
Lioness Winter Carnival to be held at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre from 9 a.m. to 4
p.m.
There will be games of Snow Pitch all day.
These games of ball are fun for the whole
family to watch.
A pancake breakfast will start at 9 a.m.
and run until 11 a.m.
Other events of the day will be a kiddie
corner, obstacle courset hay rides, horse
drawn sleigh rides, snowmobile rides and
snow golf. Some of these events will depend
• on the weather.,
A dance will be held at night from 9 p.m.
to 1 a.m. with P.R.S. disc jockeys providing
50s, 60s and country and western music.

MIDDLETON - On Sunday morning Com-
munion was celebrated with Rev. George
Youmatoff officiating at St. James' Mid-
dleton Anglican Church on January 5. Ray
Wise and Edward Deeves received the offer-
ing.
On January 9 the ACV penny savers pot
luck dinner will be held at the home of
Audrey Middleton starting at 7 p.m. sharp.

Mary Atwood of Detroit was a holiday
guest with her sister Delores Dutot. Mary,
Delores and Alvin Dutot spent Christmas
with Arlene and Bill Hulls and Jonathon and
Jason all of Cornwall.
The Deeves spent Christmas day with
Balfours and on New Year's Blanche and Ed
travelled to Chatham to have New Year's ,
with their daughter and family.
On their way home they stopped at
Highgate and had dinner with Margaret and
Harry Lippert. .
The holiday weathter and roads were not
the best. Mrs. Deeves had several phone
calls. One call was from her aunt in Ban-
bury, England who said her husband was
preparing for his garde%. Prom Florida, the
report was they were cold and wearing
more elothes than they should need. From
