There is a business professor at Harvard who seizes his students'
attention on the first day of class each year by opening with this
quote. He maintains that the essence of good ad copy is an ability
to immediately grab an audience's attention and, in his opinion,
this line is the single most effective first sentence he's ever seen.
Now, if I have your attention, let me tell you that we've just
received a fresh shipment of Carr's of Carlisle cheddar cheese
biscuits which we launched exclusively in June. They've still the
same low price -only 99 cents for a 150 g box. Available: L, LS, NF,

No one knows the
origin of "Brown
Betty," the name by
t , which Britain's
traditional teapot has
--- affectionately come to
be known. Scholars
... , .
, • ^ , " suggest that North
Americans coined the
term in the mid 40s.
What we do know is that
brown English teapots, made
01. from a' reddish -brown clay, date
back to 1745, when the were first
produced on the estate of Charles, Marquis of
Rockingham, in Yorkshire. Boris Polakow, a key member of
our Insider's Report 'team, met a couple from England this
summer and in the course of conversation mentioned our
upcoming sale of Sadler Brown Betty Teapots. The response
he got was, "That's impossible! We can't buy them for
anywhere near 'that price in England!" A call to London
revealed they were tight. Harrods, the. famous London
department store, currently sells the sirup' Sadler Brown
Betty for the equivalent,of $9.65.(Cdn)11. WE'RE SELLING
THE VERY SAME TEAPOT FOR 'JUST $8.991! (In
Ontario, we've seen the same 6-cupper selling for up to
$11.98 in department stores.) Available: L, LS„Z, SI.
