Kittle seed to a tree By TINA HOONARD Blyth Public School Grade 3 • Once I was a little seed. Soon I grew into a little evergreen tree. I lived happily in the forest. As the year went by I grew bigger and big- ger. Soon I was almost as big as my friends. I wondered what it was like to be a Christmas t ee. My friends told me about an evergreen tree about my size. They told that he got cut down and they took him away and we never saw him again. I still wanted to be a Christmas tree. I kept wondering what it would be like. Final- ly, I decided I wanted to be a beautiful Christmas tree. I told my friends about it. They told me I should keep wishing and wishing. One day some people came to the forest. They were looking for an evergreen tree. I thought this was a good chance to be a Christmas tree. i lnnke(1 ni'. hnct 'rhn pe(mle cnw me and came to look at me. One of the people said, "Let's take this tree." I was feeling very ex- cited. They cut me down and took me away from my friends. I felt sad for a few minutes, but I thought of all the decorations that would be put on me. That made me feel a little better. finally, they took me to the house. They brushed the snow off me. When they brush- ed off all the snow they took me upstairs and set me on a little stand. Then they put lots of pretty decorations on me. I was very ex- cited. They put presents under my bran- ches. Then they put lights all over me. Then they turned the lights on. I looked at myself. I was very surprised. I looked very pretty. Soon the family went to bed. After a while, I heard little foot steps going downstairs. I was afraid for a minute, but it was just a lit- tle boy. He crept under me and opened a present. I had my first secret. The next day, after supper they had a big party. I felt very happy. Rain makes me grow By JENNIFER CUCKSEY Blyth Public School Grade 3 Once upon a time, I was just a little seed until someone stepped on me and pushed me into the ground. Then it started to rain on me. After it was over, the sun came out and I started to grow. When I was bigger, I look- ed at myself, and it looked like I was grow- ing into an evergreen tree. When a few years went by, I got bigger and bigger every day. When I was a big evergreen tree, I let the birds build their nests in my branches, and they liked it there. • One day, I heardmy brothers and sisters say, "That old evergreen will never make a good friend for us." And they, moved away. I said, 'I don't care if they call me names because they are older Than me. And I can't even play with them. So I won't even listen to them." So I was not happy that day, and neither were the other evergreen trees. They were sad because of what they had' done, but they were too scared to talk back to their sister. Well, anyway, the big evergreen was still upset by what they had done to him. The next day was Christmas and the big evergreen was 1 hoping he would be picked for the Christmas tree. The Browns were out looking for a tall, fat Christmas tree. Then they.saw the big evergreen. So they chopped it down and put in on a sleigh and brought it to their house. The other sisters and brothers were sad because they were not picked for the Christmas tree for the Browns. When they were back home, the ,Browns put the Christmas tree in the corner and put it in a pot. I was happy that day because they put little lights on me, and other things too. . The happiest thing of all, was when we had the Christrnas party.. It was fun. Pack me, pick me!!
