By Alan Rivett BAYFIELD - At their December 16 meeting, council agreed to participate in a shoreline erosion advisory program through the Ministry of Natural Resources which may help eradicate some of the erosions problems in the Bayfield area. The program, run at the local level by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ARCA), is designed to give technical advice to property owners of shoreline properties between Port Franks and Bayfield Reeve Dave Johnston says Bayfield has six road allowances ending at the lake which could be looked at in order to determine a suitable solution to the erosion problems. The reeve, however, stated the village's main eoncern was the deterioration of the bank at Pioneer Park. "It's not getting any better, in fact, it's getting a lot worse," said Reeve Johnston. Each situation will be assessed by ABCA to ensure that an erosion problem exists, stated a press release by the conservation authority. The information is sent to the Ministry of Natural Resources who will arrange to have a consulting engineer meet the applicant at the site, at no cost to the applicant. A written assessment which outlines possible solutions to the problems will be given to the applicant. If the property owner wishes to proceed with construction work, they should apply to the municipality for a low interest loan under the Shoreline Property Assistance Act. The advisory service is available until March 31, 1986. Merry Christmas From all of us at BAYFIELD LUMBER 565-2990 Highway 21 South Festive Season at Clan Gregor As part of the pre -Christmas activities the residents of Clan Gregor Apartments have enjoyed two delightful afternoon sing songs, as well as delicious refreshments, provided by the Bayfield Lioness. On December 19 the Bayfield Brownies arrived at the apartments on a horse drawn sleigh which pulled into the forecourt for all to see - a true Christmas sight. Led by Mary Dunbar and with music played by Sue Scrimgeour, the Brownies gave a performance of Christmas carols and Christmas songs. Before departing they presented a charm- ing stained glass ornament for the Christmas tree, which like the others presented in previous years, will be treasured and featured as part of the tree's trim each year. Then on December 21, Margaret Chap- man and friends made a .social visit to the apartments at 2:30 p.m. bringing with them egg nog and cookies. • Another year has nearly gone by, and ' once again it is time to extend Christmas greetings to the readers and extend to them best wishes for 1986. Three Wise Men By Helen Owen Three learned men of science received an invitation To carry out their studies in a newly launch- ed space station. With formula and programs (and some in- ward trepidation) They all agreed their findings would meet withapprobation. The heavens they viewed with wonder beyond their expectations, And, how inadequate they felt, despite their preparations. Although they had their theories• about the constellations This journey in the atmosphere disclosed new revelations! One star in particular commanded their at- tention. "Surely," they said, "this is unique - it',s like a new invention" They carefully watched the course,' which seemed beyond their comprehension For it denied their theories, and moved by its own intention. . Once landed they compared their notes, then without hesitation Booked flights as quickly as they could, for in their estimation The special star was leading them - they felt its fascination They had to find the answer, but ahead lay much frustration: The area where they landed was one of devastation But undeterred, they went on foot, there was no transportation. • In vain they sought, then finally found some poor accommodation And looking up each realized they'd found the star's location. Then, their science all forgotten, as they heard an infant cry It was Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, and they knew the reason why They had seen the star and travelled far to a special place on earth To find in the war torn countryside, the place of the Savior's birth.
