The "World's Christmas Party" (above) was used as a card with the accompanying 1
story about 100 years ago. The other Christmas cards were used after the turn of century g
and sent as postcards. (contributed by Elizabeth Kettlewell)
world's Christmas Party
(From the ''Infant's /Magazine
December 1886)
"Once upon a time all the world gave a Christmas party, and everyone ,was asked g
to come. Everybody wrote to everybody, "Please come and taste my Christmas
p-udding." Oh, what a stir there was on Christmas Day, when everybody went off
to dine with everybody! The Lap set out from the far -away North in his sledge, gi
drawn .by reindeer; then the Canadian•and his wife in a horse -sleigh; Mr. Brown A
on a bicycle, his brother on a, tricycle, his wife in a Bath -chair, and his baby in a
perambulator; then Miss Jones ih her goat -cart, Sooty Bob on his donkey, Mr. g
White and Mr. Black' on horseback, and old' Mr. Grey ill a •hansom; then a'
nobleman in a gig, driving tandem', followed, by a party from the country in a g
stage -coach; then a lot of people from town in an omnibus, and another lot in a g
tram -car. Some travelled by train, some by steam -ship and some by sailing ship, g
and.one man went from London in a balloon. Alas, and alas! when they sat down
to dinner there was nothing to eat, for nobody hade been left at home to Thake
the pudding.".
