Mustangs drop backwagtoNsback
CLINTON - Frustrating could be the word
which could best describe the Mustangs
latest two games as they dropped back-to-
back one goal games to Tavistock and
Thedford in Junior C action over the
weekend.
Tavistock 5 - Clinton 4
With only 26 seconds left on the clock,

brought theMustangs within two with
assists going to Troy Falconer and Ron
McKay. Just over a minute later, Clinton

Van Dungen assisted by Brad Hymers and
Randy Marriage.
The Mustangs tied the score early in' the
third period with Devon Colquhoun earning
his second goal of the • farne with Dean
Armstrong assisting. The Braves jumped
into the lead again at the 15:25 mark of the
period to make the score 4-3. Clinton came
back to tie the score again two minutes later

Randy Marriage assisting.
But, with just 26 seconds remaining in the
game, Tavistock scored the winning goal on

The next day, (December 15) the
Mustangs travelled to Thedford to play the
Browns with .the same eid result - another
one -goal loss.
Thedford was on top by four goals it the
first period before the Mustangs finally had

scored two power play goals to make the
score 4-2. The first Mustang goal was an
unassisted effort by Wayne Smith while the
second goal was scored by Randy Marriage
with assists going to Bob Dupee and Brad
ames
Hymers.
Clinton made the score 4-3 early in the

keep their undefeated streak in league play
still intact.

drew assists on the goal. After Seaforth tied
the score 1-1 Chris Kennedy put Clinton in
the lead again as he took a rink -wide pass
front Danny Wildfong to score.
Seaforth scored the only two goals of the
second period as they took a 3-2 lead into the
third period.
As the clock ticked down, Clinton seemed
to become frustrated after missing good
scoring opportunities. But, persistance
finally paid off.
With 5:01 left, Jason Carter, on a set-up
from Shawn Chipchase,narrowed the
Seaforth lead. to 4-3. Then, 15 seconds apart,
Livermore scored two goals to push Clinton
into a 524 lead. On the Livermore goals,
linemates Chris Kennedy and Danny
Wildfong drew assists. Jason Carter
completed the scoring with his second goal
of the game as Scott Rathwell's pass out Of
the corner found Carter all alone in front of
the net to give Clinton the 6-4 victory. •
Mitchell 6 - Clinton 3
On the following evening it was a different
story as Mitchell Atoms put a stop to
Clinton's winning streak by downing them 6-
3 in Mitchell.
Even though Clinton outshot Mitchell 34-19
it was the numbers on the scoreboard which
counted.
Mitchell's goaltender played a superb
game, according to coach Bob Livermore a
time and time again he stopped the Clintpn
shooters. Livermore said, "You can't win
many games if you missseven breakaways
like we did."
Scoring for Clinton were Shawn Chipchase
with two goals, and Scott Rathwell with one.
Scott Jewitt picked up two assists on the
Chipchase goals. Shane ' MacDonald, who
has been 'playing superb hockey on the blue
line, also had an assist on one of Shawn's
goals.
Clinton 4 - Milverton 4.
On December 16, Clinton battled- •
Milverton to a 4-4 tie. Jason Carter paced
Clinton with a hat -trick and Chris Kennedy
added the single tally.
Milverton held a 2-0 lead after the first two
periods before Clinton finally put their game
.in gear. At the 2:51 mark of the third period,
Jason Carter was put into the clear after
taking a pass from Shawn Chipchase. Scott
Jewitt also assisted on the goal. Four.
minutes later, Carter score again to tie the
score. 2-2. It was a carbon copy of his -first
goal as he skated in all , alone on a
breakaway, deked the goaltender, and
deposited the puck into the open net. •
With 4:01 remaining, Carter completed
his hat -trick as he converted a perfect pass
from Scott Jewitt and picked the top left-
hand corner.. Milverton, however, battled
back to score from a face-off in the Clinton
zone to tie the score at 3-3.
Chris Kennedy came- right back for
Clinton to score as Mark Livermore fed him
a pass in front of the net to give Clinton what
lopked to be the winning goal. But, it wasn't
to be as the host team from Milverton pulled
their goaltender and scored with 21 seconds
remaining on the clock.
' The Atoms get a chance to redeem
themselves against Milvertc9n this weekend.
