The Blyth Public School was the winning school this year in the Wingham district of the Ministry of Natural Resources essay con- test for Grade 7 and 8 students. This year's theme was Woodlots Complement Farming. In the first order of business, council in- structed Clerk Harry Lear. to notify Don Greidanus concerning a fence on township property which is to be removed. The fence .interferes with snow removal on sideroad 30-31. Council also was In agreement with a resolution sent from the Roman Catholic School Board urging the Ontario Solicitor General to enact legislation which would cut down on the excessive lawsuits and court awards being given oust in the province. - A bylaw was passed which would set the township's borrowing rate at $385,000. Ac- cording to Clerk Harry Lear, the rate is set at 60 per cent of the expected tax revenne'in the township. Council also passed a bylaw to set the rate for • remuneration for ap- pointed and elected officials. As yet. the complete pay -schedule for Hullett officials is incomplete 'as is the list of appointed members on the various committees of council. Clerk Harry Lear was instructed by coun- .cii to prepare a 'byla•w•. naming Eugene McAdam as the Hullett Township Bylaw (.)f fiver. Clerk tear was also instructed to draw up a bylaw controlling -permanent access on to • township roads. Four students from Huron County were honored by the Ministry of Natural Resources for the top three essays in the Wingham District's Seventh Annual Essay Writing Contest at Blyth Public School on December 13. The winners were, from left, Heather Wheeler from Turnberry Central Public School, tied for third place; Joe Weber from Elma Township Public School, also tied for third place; Scott Cronin, second place and Lisa Watson, first place.
