Muriel Couites has returned home from a
two-week coarse in Liberation Theology
held at the Curnevaca Centre for
Intercultural Dialogue on Development in
Curnevaca, Mexico.
The course involved visiting the
extremely poor villages, dialogues with
women in those villages, talks from those
who are working with and for the poor in
Base Eclesial communities, as well as
lectures on the political oppression of Latin
American communities..
Fifteen women from across Canada took
part in this training course. It was arranged
through the Division of Mission of the United
Church of Canada and the United Church
Women.
Christmas Party
A large crowd attended the annual
Christmas pot luck supper of the Calvin -
Brick United Church congregation. It was
held at the Women's Institute Hall in
Belgrave on Friday, December 6.

recitation, followed by a number by the
kindergarten class entitled, "The Magic of
Christmas." Participants were Tracy
Robinson, Donna Jean Pattison, David and
Michael McBurney and Robbie McGee.
Debbie and Dianne Ross delighted the
audience with Highland dancing.
A skit entitled, "Visiting the Sick," was
presented by Brenda Halman, Maryon Dow,
Jeff Olson and Brad Shiell. "Christmas
Then and Now" was presented by the
combined efforts of the primary and junior
classes depicting how the Christmas story
would be told in present times and past
times. Participants were Sherry and Trisha
Taylor, Brent, Brad and Mark Robinson,'
Debbie and Dianne Ross, Brandon and
Aaron Coulter, Dawn Dow, Simone Bleeker,
Tabitha Pattison, Ben Heiman and Mark
Olson.
' Carol singing, led by the Reverend John
G. Roberts and accompanied by Mrs.
George McGee was interspersed throughout
the program.

Superintendent, thanked the teachers and
rticipants for their efforts and every child
I0F1s presented with a Christmas treat.
Fu ds Collected •
Over $200 was collected for the Diabetic
Association in the village. of .Belgrave.

Mrs. John McCracken and Dorothy Logan
would like to thank all those who helped with
the canvassing.
Other helpers were : Mrs. Les Shaw,
Harold Keating, Wilfred Walker, Mrs.
Lawrence Taylor, Mrs. Evel Reich, Tom
Wharton and Mrs. George Johnston.

Clare Van Camp is a patient in Wingham
and District Hospital.
Laura Johnston spent the weekend with
Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and
Erin of Ilderton.
UCW meets
The general meeting of the United Church
Women was held November 28.
Mrs. Murray Vincent opened the meeting
with a Christmas worship service, assisted
by Mrs. Bob Gordon. The offering was
received by Mrs. Les Shaw and Annie Cook
and dedicated by Mrs. Murray Vincent. •

The President, Mrs. John Roberts,
welcomed Alison Coultes and Mrs. Paul
Cook who sang a duet accompanied on the
piano by Mrs. George Johnston.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
and the treasurer's report given.
Correspondence was read from 'Town and
Country Homemakers, Alma College and
the Resource Centre. It was decided to buy
Bibles for the Sunday School and a
poinsettia for the church sanctuary.
Donations were made to Town and
CountryHomemakers, Children's Aid,
Alma ollege, Youth Group and World
Development and Relief Fund.
Reports were read by various committee
convenors and the nominating committee
reported the new officers for 1986.
The next meeting will be held January 30
at 6:30 p.m. with a pot luck supper, music by
Mrs. Les Shaw, worship service by Laura
Johnston and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor and the
program on "Medical Electives" with Dr.
Kim of. London.
Mrs. John Roberts, president, thanked
everyone for their support during her term
of office.
Mrs. Jack Taylor' introduced the program,
a play called "Gifts Money Can't Buy,"
presented by Mrs. Jack Taylor, Mrs. Les
Shaw, Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Lawrence
Taylor, Dorothy Logan and Laura Johnston.
Mrs. Roberts closed the meeting with
everyone repeating the Mizpah Benediction.
UCW officers for 1986 are: past president,
Kay Roberts; president, Edith Vincent;
first vice-president, Wilma Higgins;
treasurer, Donna Shaw; assistant treasurer
and stewardship and finance leader, Mary
Taylor; secretary and communications,
Laura Johnston; assistant secretary, Mary
Hunter; church in society, Mabel Wheeler
and Janet Mathers; World Outreach, Muriel
Coultes; Christian Development. Wilma
Higgins, Mrs. Clarence Yuill, Marie
McIntosh; in church services, Margaret
Taylor, Thelma Pletch and Freda Johnston.

Gordon and Jane Grasby and Linda
Campbell; leader development, Doris
Michie; auditors, Bernice Higgins and
Donelda Cottrill; nominating committee,

Euchre played
Nine tables were in play at the weekly
euchre game which was held in the Women's
Institute Hall last Wednesday.
Winners were: high lady, Pearl Shiell;
novelty lady, Mrs. Garner Nicholson; low
lady, Verena Bone; high man, Leslie
Vincent; novelty man, Lewis Stonehouse
and low man, Mel Jacklin.
There will be euchre again tonight at 8
p.m.
Get Together
The Vincent families held a pre -Christmas
get-together in the Women's Institute Hall
Saturday.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Taff °
of London; Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Mitchell and
Scott of Hanover; Mr. and Mrs: Ralph
Logan, Kevin and Trevor of Wyoming; Mr.
and Mrs. Barry Logan, Michael, Shawn and
Becky of Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Vincent, Dean, Jayne and Vaughan; Mr.
and Mrs. Neil Vincent and Mr. and Mrs.
Grant Vincent and Cole all of East
Wawanosh Township and the parents, Mr..
and Mrs. Harold Vincent, Mr. and Mrs. Les
Vincent and Dorothy Logan all of Belgrave
and Olive McKay of Wingham.
Money. Collected
$841.05 which is an increase of $137.70 over
last year was collected for the Belgrave
Branch of the Bible Society.
The officers of this Branch wish to thank
all who helped collect and those who donated
during this canvass.
tan -Lee Seniors hQld Christmas party
Complex was located and cut by Cliff
Henderson and Aldie Mustard. It was put up
and decorated by Cliff, ' Bill and Mary
Chessell, Ruby; Triebner. Bill and Eleanor
McAsh and Norene Hayter.
Error
There was an error in last week's report of
the Sunday School concert. Bill and Carol
Stephenson's children were in the Jingle
Bells group. Paul and Elaine Stephenson
and their girls attended the confirmation of
the children of Sharon and Bill McClure in
Winthrop United Church that day.
U.C.W. Potluck
About 30 U.C.W. members and their
guests had a delicious potluck supper at
Varna church on Thursday evening. Follow-•
ing the supper, Joyce Dowson, with Shirley
Hill at the piano, led the singing of carols.

VARNA.- The Stan -Lee Seniors Club held
their annual Christmas party last Tuesday
evening, with about 50 people in. attendance.
A.delicious smorgasbord was enjoyed, con-
sisting
of ° turkey roasted by Louise Iven-
chenko, Norene Hayter and Anna Keys and
a potluck variety of everything else.
Bill Reid won the .lucky chair prize and
Bruce Keys .had the lucky plate. Percy
Brown won for the birthday closest to
Christmas and Mary Brown was winner of
the ten -cent draw. •
Bill and Eleanor McAsh showed beautiful
pictures of their .trip to Europe and Great
Britain. 'The'rest of the evening was spent
playing shuffleboard or euchre. Winners of
card prizes w re Bernice Reid and Elmer
Hayter for high scores, and Dorothy Ostrom
and Mary Reicl, low score.

. A thought-provoking and dramatic wor-
ship service was presented by Rev. Wilena
Brown, Dorothy Ostrom and Margaret
Hayter. Therewas meditation on how we
prepare for Christmas and readings on
"Joy", "The Gift of Love", and receiving
gifts graciously, alternating with scripture
readings and carols. Miss Brown prepared
and told the Christmas story as Mary, the
mother of Jesus, might have told it.
Joyce Dowson, Helen Taylor, Mona
Stephenson and Deb Rathwell sang the
beautiful "0 Holy Night". Eleanor McAsh
and Ruth Johnston received the offering.
Guests were present from Clinton,
Goderich and Bayfield. The U.C.W. was
pleased to have Mary Barker of King City
with them for the occasion. She and her hus-
band Don spent a few days in Clinton with
her father, Fred McClymont.
Grey Cup winners
CLINTON - The Lions Club annual Grey
Cup • draw was once again a success.
Approximately $2,250 was raised and will be
used in the club's community activities.
The winners were: Ralph Feltz, Clinton,
$1,000; Bob Caldwell, Brucefield, $300;
Doris Pagon, Seaforth, $200; Gary Gravett,
Wingham, $100.
