Kettlewell CLINTON - The second Sunday in Advent was also observed as Bible Sunday at St. Paul's Anglican Church, and was also the annual White Gift Sunday. Churches throughout Huron County unite each year in providing Christmas gifts for needy families. Gifts may be left at the Christian Reformed Church in Clinton. Ladies of St. Paul's Altar Guild are now planning Christmas church decorations, and would ' appreciate. hearing from everyone planning to donate manorial flowers, or other church flowers. Members of St. Paul's Building Commit- tee are pleased to announce that restoration of the church roof is now complete. It is ex- pected that the new metal roof will serve for at least 25 years, and possibly much longer. The Committee is now planning to have the church ceiling insulated. This greatly needed improvement will noticeably reduce heating costs. The annual Christmas Pot Luck Luncheon and fellowship hour will take place next Sun- day, December 15, following the morning service. Parishioners wishing to have transportation to and from services are welcome to call Mr. Simmons, Bob Camp- bell or Bi11 Kettlewell. The Reverend Mr. Gordon Simmons open- ed his Bible Sunday sermon appropriately with a Biblical version of "Trivial Pursuit" Answers to the questions were surprising to almosLryone in the congregation! In the 66 books of the Protestant Bible there are 1,189 chapters....1,173 verses...592,439 words in the Old Testament, and 181,253 words in the New Testament. Mr. Simmons explain- ed how the wording in each of the many ver- sions of the Bible changed, although the message was the same. As an example, he mentioned that the word "child" was never used in John Wycliffe's version of the 14th century, which was the first translation of the English Bible. Wycliffe used the word "brat" when referring to a child, but the term did not imply an unruly child as it does in today's language. Wycliffe also used the words "Dad" in place of "father". ---.4 The' original Bible was written in the Hebrew language over a period of about 1,600 years, beginning about the year 1500 BC, and has been translated in whole, or part in over 1,200 different languages and dialects. For half a century, the Bible has been reported to be the largest seller of all books ever published. Members of St. Paul's and friends who attended the 120th Anniversary and Re -dedication Service on December 1, will be able to see photographs taken of Bishop Derwyn D. Jones. Pictures will be on display December 15, and copies may be ordered. WE'LL, GIVE YOU TIM E I I()LIDAY SEASON LOOK YOU'LL LOVE! The highlight was the addition of numerous newborn members to the con- gregation. The. birth of children into the families of the congregation is always a hap- py occasion in the church. The baptism ser- vice took place on a number of Sundays in November. Each time•baptism is administered, one of three different forms is read by the minister. The forms explains the meaning of baptism: a) that children are conceived and born in sin, b) that holy baptism witnesses and seals the washing away of sin through Jesus Christ, and c). that baptism is a sign and seal of the covenant between God and his people and their'hildren. ssosamimpeovalasmarettmegs Coming Soon to the Clinton Community Credit Union...
