appointments
The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) an-
nounced the appointments of Sandra G.
Lawrence as new Chief Conservator and
Barbara Fischer as new Assistant ('urator
of Contemporary Art.
Sandra G. Lawrence, a Canadian, was ap-
pointed Chief Conservator after an interna-
tional search. She holds a Mastelaof Art Con-
servation from Queen's University and,
from 1976 to 1981, was Conservator, Eine
Arts and Polychrome Division, at the Cana-
dian Conservation Institute in Ottawa.
Since 1981, Ms. Lawrence has pursued a
successful career in Toronto as a freelance
conservator and conservation consultant,
working for the federal and Quebec govern-
ments, private and corporate collectors,
and galleries, inuseums, and universities in
Toronto, southwestern Ontario, and die
western provinces.
She assumes her new position on January
15, 1986.
Barbara Fischer comes to the Atio from
the Walter Phillips Gallery at the Banff Cen-
tre, where for the past two years, she has
begin Assistant Curator. Among the many
exhibitions she curated while at Banff were
Social Space, an exhibition of documentary
works, and Contemporary Art from Poland,
the,largest-ever exhibition of Polish contem-
porary art outside Poland.
From 1981 to 1983, Ms. Fischer was
curator of both contemporary art and in-
dependent and experimental film at Open
Space Gallery, an artist -run centre in Vic-
toria.
Ms: Fischer was educated in West Ger-
many and Canada.
