Dianne is the first Girl Guide from Blyth to receive this recognition since they were first started in Blyth in 1980. Winter arrives The area finally' got its first taste of a typical southwestern winter on December 2. Numerous schools and work were cancelled. Motorists were asked to stay off of the highways unless it was an emergency. The temperatures took a drastic change, for they went from 9 C at approxiniately 10 pin. to -9 C. sometime throughout the night Sun- day. •The mercury didn't Move much on Monday. The strong winds made it nothing short of a hinderance to see. After experiencing a thunder storm un Sunday afternoon, many believed this was a sure sign of an open winter for another six weeks. So much for that idea this tiiiic. In- stead of it going up in smoke, it came clown in snow: Due to the weather, the Ladies' Auxiliary postponed their Christmas Party from Mon- day night to Tuesday night. Many activities and plans had to be worked around concern- ing many people and clubs. Wedding congratulations Congratulations to Thelma McDougall and Ken Johnstone who were wed on November 30. Coming home to attend the ceremony was Thelrma's sun, Kevin, from ' Petewawa. Crafts for kids Attention all children, 5-10 years old, - there will be a Craft Club held every Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 p.01. at The Church of God, McConnell Street. There will be snacks served along with numerous crafts and films, so come out for the enjoy- ment, immediately following school. Christmas joys Now that we are into the month of December, everyone is busy getting their decorations up for Christmas. This. past• week, the Blyth PUC has been busy getting the lights decorated accordingly. Numerous Christmas parties are also beginning. Please remember – if you are go- ing to a party, don't drink and drive. Remember, Christmas is a time of joy, not sorruw. Lost Heir On November 6, there were six tables of card players present at the Blyth Memorial Hall for Lost Heir. High lady for the evening was Mary Walden, while low lady was Lillian Patterson. The high man score went to Ray Madill, and the low man was Edger Howett. For the Month of December, lost Heir will be played on the 4th and llth of December. It will then reswnc again on January 8. Continue attending 1,ost Heir at the Blyth Memorial Hall, Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. Another win The Blyth 'Tykes brought home their fourth straight victory on Friday night. They played in Brussels, Where they defeated then] 11 to 1. Thresher reunion shows profit The annual meeting of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association Inc. was held November 23 in the Blyth Memorial Hall with 45 member's present. The 1985 financial statement showed that despite the poor weather, the club had a good year at the September reunion with a profit of $1,281.57. Raymond Hallahan stepped down as president and Bill Vincent moved up as president for the next two years. Bob Reid was nominated as second vice president. Three new directors were elected for a three year term. They are Jim Sloan of Chesley, Joe Hallahan of Blyth and Norman Cook of Belgrave. The 1985-86'year will be busy as the club is celebrating 25 years. Anyone wishing to add any tidbits to make the celebration a suc- cess, .please contact the secretary, Marion Hallahan o f Blyth as soon as possible, .as plans have already been started. A video of the 1985 Sunday afternoon show was taped and sent to the club. Many members. enjoyed watching themselves on tape. A members meeting is planned for April.. 1986. Bingo winners take home turkey 13ELGRAVE - A large crowd attended the Kinsmen's annual 'Turkey Bingo un November 29, Winners of the turkey bingo were: George Johnston, Irene Lamont, Karen Caseinore, Heather Harper, Harvey Black, Donna Shaw, Hilda Vincent, Ann McKercher, Wan- da Curtis and Trevor Jamieson. Share -the - Wealth winners were: John McKercher and Crystal Black. Door prizes were won by Kim Edgar, Clarence Hanna -and Albert Cook. Euchre Played 't'w'elve tables were in play at the weekly euchre held in the Women's Institute Hall UI November; 27. The winders were: high lady, Jean Pat- tison: novelty lady, Mrs. Lorne Jamieson; low lady, Mrs. Edgar Wightman; high man, William Black; novelty man, Lawrence Taylor and low man, George Drehrnann. There will be euchre again this Wednes- day starting at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. People Dorothy Higgins has taken up residence in the Callander Nursing Home, Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Vince Makas and Alicia of London spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler. Mrs. Gerald Watson of Forest spent a, few - days last week with ,her sister -in- law Mrs. Hoy Pattison. On.December 1, the Singers put on a conked, performing Christmas carols under the direction of Laurie Rowbotham of Listowel with Louise McGregor, of Clinton, on the piano. The Blyth Festival Singers put on two concerts entitled Christmas in Song. ( Anne Narejko photo) Resident admitted to CPH By Dora Shobbrook LONI)ESBORO - Mrs. Murray. Lyon was admitted .to Clinton Public Hospital on November 29 with pneumonia. We wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson attended the Bluewater CNIB Club Christmas dinner in Seaforth on November 30. . Visiting on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pollard was her sister Agnes Rhoads from Stratford. Mr. and Mrs. William Scott and'son from Escondido, California visited with his sister- in-law Jean Scott on the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Willner Glousher were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Glousher, Goderich. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen spent the . weekend with his brother Mr. and Mrs. I,ester Allen of Watford. Jennifer Hodgins of Vanastra visited on 'the weekend with her grandparents Nlr. and Mrs. Wilmer Glousher. UCW Christmas meeting is set for December 9 beginning at 6:30.p.m. with a potluck supper. Please bring, a guest and a gift for the Survival 'Through Friendship Home in Goderich. Items such as groceries or baby gifts will be gladly accepted. Happy Gang The members of the Happy Gang Seniors Club enjoyed a bountiful hot turkey Christams dinner at their meeting on November 27. The meal was served, by the Londesboro Womer Institute with 51 in attendance. • Audrey Thompson expressed thanks for the meal on behalf of the club. Margaret Anderson of the WI gave the reply. President Lorne Bunking welcomed the members to the meeting which opened with the anthem and a poem. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary Estella Adams. WI Cards There were eight tables in play at. the WI card party on November 29. In. charge of .the card party were Margaret Taylor and 'Helen Lawson. The next card party . is - on December 13. . Church News A large congregation attended the White Gift Service on Sunday. The service was conducted by the Sunday School pupils and prepared by the teachers. Greeting the ,congregat•ion were Rev. Snihur and Nancy Penfound. • The ushers, dressed as shepherds, . were Fred Peel, Brian Howatt, Michael Radford and Bryan, Whyte, The junior choir, who occupied the front pews with their teachers Crystal Whyte ,and Brenda Konarski, sang the anthems with the help of organist Lisa 1)uizer and choir director Marsha Szusz. Rev. Snihur welcorned all and gave •the announcements: Next Sunday, an untrimmed tree, will be in church. Each member of the congregation is asked to bring one a Christmas ' ornament. , The Christmas potluck dinner will, be held on December 15 immediately following church: . Also on December 15, the joint interdenominational Christmas service will be held at the Blyth Memorial Hall at 7:30 p.m: The -lighting of the first advent candle.was carried out by Mr. and Ids. Bob Thompson. The scriptures regarding the Holy Child were read by four Of the shepherds.
