Armed, with a few leftover pieces of, steel and wood, Bill Holland, of the Vanastra area, put them to good use to create "something different" for his six-year-old granddaughter - a shiny new playhouse. "When she saw it she just went 'eek'. She couldn't believe it: She was all excited. Not many kids have something like this," said Mr. Holland of the reaction of his grand- daughter, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McMahon of Clinton. A cornbinination of free time and a lot of spare material from his sideline as a builder prompted Mr. Holland to begin work on the white with red trim playhouse. He started in late July, and finished in time for the grand opening on October- 12. On the occasion, grandchildren Jill and Fraser McMahon and Krista Lee Holland, along with friends Sara and Laura McNichol and Brennan Crawford cut the ribbon to officially open the place fur his grandchildren and their friends. The idea for the playhouse carne when his wife Wonnetta was leafing through a magazine and discovered the plans for the playhouse. "1 saw it in a magazine and I said to Bill, 'we should have something like that for the kids."' From the plans, he built the eight foot by 10.5 foot structure complete with shingles and steel siding. An old aluminum door Was cut down and made to fit the house along with two' windows which once belonged on a camping trailer, he said. Inside, the ,walls are covered with leftover wallpaper and there are shelves where dolls are neatly' stacked. There's even a small closet where coats can be hung. • Mr. Holland says his grandchildren and their friends come over on most weekends to have' doll parties 'in the playhouse. "They get together to have doll parties. They bring over their Cabbage Patch dolls," he says. Mr. Holland says he built the playhouse so his grandchildren could have a place to play when they comic to visit. Most of all, it's something ' that's "a long way off of routine," he says.
