in his 74th year. Beloved husband of the former
Anne Jones, Survived by one sister Miss Bessie

received at the Boll & Falconer Funeral Home,
153 High Street, Clinton on Saturday from 2 • 4
and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at the
funeral home on Sunday, November 24 at 2.30

LONDESBORO - The nominating
committee of the UCW installed the new
officers for 1986-87 during the meeting on
November 18.
Brenda Redford, the outgoing president,
thanked the members for their help and co-
operation during her two years in office.,
Audrey Thompson thanked her on behalf of
the group for her leadership and work she
had done.
The new officers for the upcoming year
are: past president, Brenda Radford;
president, Joan Whyte; second vice-
president, Kittie McGregor; secretary,
Betty Hulley; assistant, Penny Overboe;
treasurer, Betty Miller; monthly offering,
Margaret ' Good; pianist, Gail Lear;

Huron -Perth Preshvterial, in Egmondville.
The correspondence consisted of thank
you notes from Kitty McGregor, George and.
Vietta Hoggart and the family of John
Bromley. The members agreed to meet for a
potluck Christmas party on December 9
with the Burns UCW to be invited. Members
were urged to bring a friend and, instead of
bringing a gift, to bring an item for the
Survival Through Friendship House in
Goderich. They were also reminded to bring
cookies for the cookie exchange.
Shuffleboard
On November 20, 17 players gathered for
the weekly shuffleboard games. The
winners were, Vietta Hoggart, Hazel Reid,
Betty Hulley and Jack Lee.
Cheerio Club
The members of the Cheerio Club will hold
their Christmas dinner at the Hillcrest
Restaurant in Londesboro. A turkey dinner
will be served and a gift exchange will take
place.
Laura Lyon welcomed the members to her
home and the meeting opened with a
reading by Dora Shobbrook. The minutes
from the last meeting were read.
Donations were given to the Huron Day
Centre for and to Christmas Seals. June
Fothergill volunteered to write an article on
Christams Gone By for the News -Record
and she urged other members to write too.
Thank you notes were also read. A contest
and card playing closed the meeting.
People Report
The community is sad to hear of the death
of Bessie Paisley of Victoria, B.C. at age 92.
She is the widow of the' late George McCall.
The services were held at the McCall Bros.
Floral Funeral Home in Victoria on
November 22. She is survived by daughter
'Mean and husband Joe Benturin of Victoria.

June Fothergill. and Dennis attended a
birthday party for her sister Helen Marks at
Listowel on November 20.
Friends of Jack Armstrong are glad to see
him return home after spending over two
weeks in Seaforth Hospital.
Ross Radford of Port Colborne visited on
November 20 with his aunt Dora Shobbrook.
The WI card party is slated for November
29 at 8 p.m. All are welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood attended the
wedding of their grandaughter Brenda
Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Andrews of Toronto, to Shane Climie on
November 23. Guests from here were her
brother Greg Andrews, Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Wood, Karen, Doug and Joanne. The couple
plan to reside in San Francisco.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Garlick of
Kitchener.
United Church
Rev. Snihur and Bert Lyon greeted the
congregation for the communion service.
The ushers were Fred Peel, Brian Howatt,
Bryan Whyte and Dennis Wilts. Rev. Snihur
welcomed all and gave the call to worship.
Next Sunday will be the White Gift
service. There will be no Sunday School and °'.-
the adultsare asked to bring gifts for the
Family and Children's Services in Huron
County. The Christmas potluck dinner will
be held after church. The Official Board
meetings will be held on December 3 and 15.
The junior teachers for the service were
Kerri Shepherd and Gerbin Wilts. The
organist was Lisa Duizer while Marsha
Szusz served as the choir director. The
sermon was Preparing Through The
Prophets. Assisting the minister with the
Communion were Jack Lee, Connie
Hoggart, Ken Hulley, Garnet Wright, Edna
Reid, David Whyte, Bernice Norman and
Murray Howatt.
Women recognized on Sunday

WALTON --Women's Recognition Sunday
was observed at Duff's United Church on
November 24. Joyce Van Vliet greeted wor-
shippers -and ushers were Margery Ritchie,
- Karen Hoegy, Marjory Fraser and Mary
Humphries. The choir was made up of
women with Margery Huether at the organ.
Call to Worship was given by Helen Craig
and the story for Children's Time was given
by Dorothy Sholdice..Gloria Wilbee sang .a
solo with guitar accompaniment.
A trio of Marjory Humphries at the piano;
Phyllis Mitchell playing the violin and Pearl
McCallum, on the harmonica entertained
with several numbers.
Guest speaker, Jean Mathers of Bluevale
spoke of her stay in August at Alma College
when the school celebrated its 50th anniver-
sary.
This Sunday is the White Gift Service in
the morning: The official board meeting is
at 8 p.m. at Graeme Craig's home.
WI visit New Zealand
Murray and Olene Dennis were guests at.
the Walton Women's Institute (W .)'meeting
On November 20., ' " . `
. They showed slides of their trip , last
February to New Zealand. They had a
display of articles they had brought home
with them.
A thank you letter from the Weisbrod's,
who moved recently to Yarrow British Col-
umbia, was read. It was voted to donate $25 '
to the Huron Day Care Centre.
For the December meeting each. WI ,
member is to bring a guest to the potluck
supper at 6:30 p.m., 4-H leaders are to be in-
vited.
Reports from the Guelph Area Conven-
tion, held in St. Agatha was given by Mary
Humphries for Marjory Humphries who at-
tended. Maxine Marks also reported on the
meeting. •
Discussions 'will be held 'at the next WI
meeting regarding luncheons in the new
year, along with the possibility of card par-
ties.
