Proctor -Roy
Patricia Proctor of London and William Roy
of RR1 Londesboro were married in a dou-
ble ring ceremony at Wesley -Willis United
Church, Clinton, on September 28. Rev. Stan
McDonald officiated. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Proctor of
London and the groom is the, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Roy of Clinton. The bride's
sister, Julie Proctor of London,was the
maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Deb-
bie Claessens of Milton,- Marilyn Robinson
of London and Debbie Cooper of London. Bill
Murphy of London was the bestman. Ushers
were Tim Proctor of London, brother of the
bride, Craig Millar of Londesboro and Kevin
Howatt of London. A reception was held at
the Goderich Township Hall,, Holmesville.
The newlyweds honeymooned in Puerta
Plata. They now'reside at RR1 Londesboro.

Pamela Jo Doan, daughter of Carl 'H. and
Beverly Doan of Bay City; Michigan and
Kenneth James Dale, son of Norman and
Diane Dale of R. 2, Goderich were married
October 19, 1985 at Christian Assembly
Church in Bay City, Michigan with Rev.
William Severance and Pastor Janies Salo
officiating. Matron of honour was Mrs.
Rene Blohm, friend of 'the bride, of
Longview, Texas. Bridesmaids were Rita
Schumann, friend of the bride, of Bay City,
' and Lorri Bechard, sister of the groom,
Stratford, and C.elinda Ferrio and Mrs.
Martin Truemner, sisters of the bride, Bay
City. The best,man was Earl Flynn, cousin
of the groom, Clinton. Groomsmen were
Randy Doan of Bay City, brother of the
bride, Martin Truemner, brother-in-law of
the bride, Jeffery Doan, cousin of the
bride,also of Bay City and Alex Westman,
friend of the groom, Granton, Ontario.
Ushers were Daniel Dale, brother of the
groom, of, Goderich and Nathan Doan Jr.,
cousin of the bride, Bay City. Hostess was
Jan Kerr, friend of the bride, Bay City.
Soloists were Carolyn .and Stephan Gaus,
cousin of the bride, Carl H. Doan, father of
,the hride and Brenda Suchard of Granton.
The reception Was the L.F.A. Hall
in Bay City.

Chilton -Russell
The bridegroom's parents' Carlsruhe home
and garden was the setting for the evening
wedding of Deri Chilton and Clare Russell
on July 27. Rev. Edward Hackbusch of-
ficiated. The bride is the daughter of Joyce
and Don Chilton of Bayfield, and the groom
is the son of Shirley and Warren Russell of
Carlsruhe. Leslie Weber of Elmira was the
matron of honor and Glenda Head of
Hanover was the bridesmaid. Chris Ruhl
was bestman and Ron Patterson acted as
usher. A reception followed at the Knights of
Columbus Hall, Walkerton. The couple now
resides in Hanover.
WI members attend area conference
Twenty-eight women representing eight
branches of Huron South District Women's
Institute (WI) attended the London Area WI
Convention on October 30 and 31.
Topics discussed included an emergency
resolution that the legislation of the sale of
beer and wine be confined to £he existing
outlets and not be allowed in grocery and/or
convenience stores. This resolution was sus-
tained and will be passed on to the
Federated Women's Institute of Ontario for
presentation to the Ontario Government.
The theme of the convention was New
Beginnings. Muriel Lewis, Granton in her
president's remarks. said "If you dream
alone it's just a dream but if you dream
together it becomes reality". Charlotte
Johnson, Cochrane, president of Federated
Women's Institute of Ontario brought
greetings from the provincial organization
reminding everyone that they are all a part
of a worldwide organization and they must
keep an eye on the future to remain strong.
She also reported on upcoming workshops
and seminars on community leadership and
starting a small business. "
Bill Brady was guest speaker at the even-
ing banquet along, with the Melody Magic
Barbershop Quartett.
Three area youths were awarded the
Maryn Pardy Women's Institute Scholar-
ships valued at $200 each, Suzanne McLean,
Melborne, Lynda Sim, Embro and Linda
McKillop, Dutton. Suzanne an active 4-H
member having completed 15 clubs in six
years is furthering her education, studying
social work at a post secondary educational
institute. Lynda has completed 11 4-H clubs
in eight years, is active in church and school
functions and attended the 1984 Provincial
Leadership Camp. She will be entering col-
lege as a Developmental Service Worker.
Linda, active in sports, school and com-
munity activities is not only a 4-H member
but has been a leader as well. She will be us-
ing her scholarship to help finance her post
secondary school education. Mrs. Geraldine
Campbell, PRO London Area W.I. that the
W.I. branches in the London Area have been
actively persuing their motto of "For Home
and Country" in their rural communities.
They have donated nearly $100,000.00 to
various charities and • organizations and
presented scholarships to area youth for the
furthering of their education. Nine
members of the London Area were honoured
by the Ontario Government with Bicenten-
nial medals and the London Area was host
for the Federated Women's Institute of
Canada triennial conference. Elgin County
W.T. were involved in the International
Plowing Match this year and several bran-
ches reported an increase in membership.
She said "If there is a need in the communi-
ty the Women's Institute will be quietly
working to achieve its success.
During the election of officers Mrs. Harry
Dougall, Hurondale was named Provincial
Board Director and Mrs. Grace Drummond,
Kippen East as alternate for subdivision 23.
Retiring board director Mrs. John
Templeman and ' alternate Mrs. Robert
Ratcliffe have completed their three year
term of office.
Mrs. Carter Kerslake, Mitchell -was
elected Convener of Education and Cultural
Activities. .
The 1986 Convention will be hosted by Mid-
dlesex East District on October 16 and 17th.

Former school teacher dies
Mabel E. Lavis
A Stanley Township native and former
school teacher, Mabel E. Lavis of Clinton
died on November 7 at Maitland Manor Nur-
sing Home, Goderich. She was 92.
The daughter of John and Lydia
McKinley, she was born on January 15, 1893.
She was educated in the municipality, at the
Seaforth Collegiate and at Alma College at
St. Thomas.
Mrs. Lavis was a school teacher in
Stanley and Goderich Townships.
In 1914 she married J. Bartlett Lavis.
They lived in Clinton following their mar-
riage. Mr. Lavis died in 1952.

The annual general meeting of the
Goderich and District Pro -Life group was
held on Tuesday, October 29 at the Goderich
Township Community Centre in
Holmesville.
Guest speaker, The Reverend Bernard
DeJonge from the Exeter Christian Reform-
ed Church, stressed the importance of Pro -
Life groups continuing to assert,positive at-
titude and actions for the enhancement of
quality of life for all people. Whether people
-are healthy, handicapped, old, infirm or
poor, the speaker said they must over the
"me" attitude of the time which uses abor-
tion as a right to control rather than to
respect life.
Mr De.Ionge encouraged everyone to •join
forces with other agencies working to
enhance the quality of life for others, as that
is a basic part of Pro -Life.
Trophies were presented to winners in the
Walk/Run for Life held' on October 19:
First to finish (youth), Trevor and Kevin
Schilthuis; first to finish (adult), Jan
Hryniewiecki; most pledges raised, Mrs.
Teresa Courtney; exemplary support, Joe
Laurenco.

District Christian Reformed.

FOSTER HOMES
WANTED
The Oxford Regional Centre, Woodstock, is looking for foster homes
in central Huron County.
The Family. Home Program is to establish an alternate living arrangement for
developmentally handicapped adults. In this program, clients will receive on-going
supervision and the opportunity for growth while participating as a family member in
the home. From Monday to Friday the handicapped individual will be attending a day
program In a sheltered workshop located in Goderich.
The Oxford Regional Centre will provide on-going training' and assistance to the
family home operation, through the community services unit located in Goderich as well
as a minimum daily rate of $19.00 per individual.

After a honeymoon trip to Hawaii the
happy couple are residing in Wallingford,

She is survived by three children, Ruth
(Mrs. Keith Baker) of RR 2, Forest, George
and John, both of Clinton.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren and.
11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister Eleanor
Coleman and 0 brother Elgin McKinley.
Funeral services were held at the Beattie
Funeral Horne, Clinton, on November 10.
Rev. David Woodall of Ontario Street United
Church officiated.
Pallbearers were Bryan Lavis, Paul
Lavis, Gordon Lavis, Allan Lavis, David
Alexander and Rick Elliott.
