Dataliner can straighten ,•
out today's unit body cars
West Side Auto Body, 38 Victoria St.,
Goderich has recently installed a new col-
lision repair system (the first in this area).
Called the Dataliner, this machine is
specifically designed to straighten out to-
day's unit body cars that have been
collision -damaged.
With its new Dataliner, West Side Auto
Body can restore any car to factory
specifications and they have on file the
original dimensions of practically every
auto made since 1975. Because the
Dataliner measuring system is so exact,
they can identify the damage and be cer-
tain that the car is back to original specs
andis straight and safe. The Dataliner not
only measures the car it actually pulls it
back into shape.
"Accurate repair is crucial to the safe
operation of today's cars," explains Jim
Maddox, proprietor of West Side Auto
Body. "Cars are built with unit -body con-
struction. There is no frame. Body and
chassis are one unit consisting of many
parts joined together with thousands of
welds. Since unit body cars are designed
with `crumple' zones to protect the
passenger compartment, even a 'minor'
collision can put the whole car out of align-
ment and into dangerous driving condi-
tion. So the only way to repair a car pro-
perly ,is to realign the entire car. And
that's exactly what we do, with the
Dataliner system, the most advanced, ac- .
curate technology available for auto body
repair." •
Maddox points out that repairs made on
the Dataliner cost no more than those
made with less accurate and less safe
-methods.
Engine oil has an
important,job to
up inside the engine that must be contain-
ed. Engine oil, seals them in by coating
piston rings, liner's and piston grooves,
preventing a . power -robbing condition
known as blow-by.
As you can imagine, a heck of a lot of
thought goes into making something that's
expected to do so many jobs. In fact,
there's more high-tech engineering in a
drop of top quality motor oil than there is
in a micro chip. BasestockS must be
specially refined and fortified with a long
' list_ of additives, . each of which has a
specific function. The additives that
reduce foaming, rust, sludge and varnish
inside the engine are examples.
In addition, there are scuff protectors in
the form of antiweld and antiseize ad-
ditives, wear controllers, formulation to
Minimize combustion chamber deposits,
valve deposit reducers, agents.that reduce
sparkplug fouling, decrease oil consump-
tion and control emissions.
All the ingredients in the recipe work in
concert to deliver better fuel economy,
because they allow your car to run
smoother. But, just like any other compo-
nent, it only works properly when it's kept
in top shape. 'In the case of motor oil, that
means regular changes, including the
filter. Be sure to refer to your vehicle
owner's manual for the proper type and
grade of motor oil to use,
That's a quick course on motor oil —
from the ground up, so to speak. Next time
you pop a top, you'll be a little wiser.

Of all the fluids that can be found in your
car, none is so versatile as the oil that
pulses through its engine. Oil has to do its
job when the engine is first started on .a
cold . winter morning and it has to work
equally well at high speeds on the highway
during the hottest day in the summer.
When you pop the top on one of those
handy plastic litre containers, you're ad-
ding to your car's engine a substance that ,.
performs no less than 17 different func-,c
tions — all of them protective.
This highly refined, multi -talented
descendant of the black crude that gushes
from the earth is one of 350 lubricating oils
that are refined for a wide range of ap-
plications.
Things get pretty hot and heavy inside a
running engine. Hot metal rubs against hot
metal, temperatures quickly soar to the
point where parta would melt and fuse
together, were it not for a protective layer
of oil. •
Oil molecules act like liquid ball bear-
ings, separating moving parts, thereby
reducing the friction. Still, temperatures
can run as high as 800 degrees Celsius, hot
enough to damage engine parts. But the
oil dissipates much of this, heat, cooling the
engine and permitting it to run at safe
temperatures. In fact, the oil circulation
system that envelopes the engine with a
micro -thin film handles about 30 percent of
1
your car's cooling duties.
