The Women Being Well pro- ject has already trained nine community women who wish to establish support groups. This week eight more women begin the seven week course designed by Women Today staff. "The course is designed to: give women confidence in their own skills and knowledge. to increase awareness of lifestyle choices that promote health; and to practice skills associated with working in groups", said Valerie Bolto , coordinator of the project. "We also ha e the women explore all the resources and services within Huron County that will support their volunteer community efforts". The course involves a weekend training •- session, as well as six evening. sessions. The course is being' taught 'this fall by family counsellor and therapist, Nancy McLeod. The an- nual event raised over $3,800 for hospital work. Members heard of the Region 2 Con- ference, held recently in Wingham. Six Clin- ton representatives attended and reports on the various sessions were presented by Roberta Plumsteel, Marg Conventry and Joyce Chilton. The Ontario Hospital Auxiliaries Associa- tion is holding its 75th convention on December 1-3 at the Downtown Holiday Inn, a weekend or evenings away from home", said Bolton. It is hoped that another group will be formed which will meet for eight sessions on Monday afternoon's at the Women Today of- fice. "We have three women already who wish to take the Monday afternoon course" said Sally Rathwell, project employee. "Those three women all wish to start groups for mother's with young children." She said. The Monday afternoon course will go ahead if three more participants are found. • Women taking the training are given ac- cess to the Women Today library and files as well as start-up funding to get their groups established. Most of the chapter's members travelled to Toronto by bus on September 21 to request the closure of the Morgentaler abortion clinic. The protest was well attended, with more than 30,000 people from all over the province participating. All pro-life groups are protesting not only the continued operation of the Morgentaler clinic, but abortion as such. Ontario Attorney -General, Ian Scott, has written to Pro -Life to explain why he has not been able to close the Morgentaler clinic. Even though the Ontario Court of Appeal has found irregularities in the trial which acquitted Morgentaler of the charge of con- spiracy to procure a miscarriage, the abor- tionist's clinic remains open until his appeal can be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada. In a related issue, concerning the charges against pro-life picketers in front of the Morgentaler clinic, Provincial Court Justice Arthur Meen found that the Morgentaler abortion clinic in Toronto is illegal, and. stated that abortions performed there are `murder".
