Council supportsproducers
HULLETT - Council here pledged support
to the red meat producers of Ontario by
passing a resolution condemning the
Ontario government for doing little in
helping the troubled red meat industry.
Spaded by a letter from the Huron
County Pork Producers; council issued a
statement which will be sent to the Premier
of Ontario and to the Ministry of Agriculture
and Food, calling for "immediate financial
assistance" to the red meat producers of
Ontario with the assistance to remain in
effect until the competing subsidies to other
provinces are removed, says Clerk Harry
Lear.
In the resolution, council emphasized the
red meat producers are suffering severe
financial problems while continuing to bring
millions of dollars into Huron County every
year. The industry is also beset with unfair
competition from provinces which subsidize
their farmers products.
In other business, council read the report
on the Wilson Municipal Drain. The report
was later provisionally adopted and a date
was set for the Court of Revision for
Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. Council
instructed the engineer to invite tenders to
be in the hands of the clerk by 5 p.m. on
October 15.
Council passed a motion not to consider
adding an extended warranty op the grader
recently purchased by the township.
The road superintendent was instructed tc
compare prices on recaping grader tiree
and choose the ones which are the most
suitable. He was also instructed to invite
tenders for a new 1985 or 1986 truck. The
tender applications, subject to Ministry of
Transportation and Communicatior
approval, are to be in by October 15 at 5 p.m.
Council also proclaimed Wednesday.
October 16 as World Food Day.
The delegations for the meeting consistec
of Dan Steyn. the administrator for the
Clinton 'Public Hospital who explained the
bylaws for the elections of the members of
the hospital board. Clayton Riley requested
street lights for the village of Kinburn. Jim
Cartwright, representing the trustees of the
