Visiting minister speaks at Blyth United

The congregation of Blyth United Church
and Rev. Ken Bauman welcomed to the
pulpit, George Cowan, minister at 'Fuller-
ton, who spoke at both the morning and
evening services on October 27.
Greeters were Evalena Webster and
Albert Wasson. Ushers were Mary Walden,
Janet Lawrie, Thelma and Jim Wilson, John
Blake, Vera and John Hesselwood. Prelude
of music and throughout the service. under
the direction of Margaret Kai and Shirley
Vincent. Special music was provided by the
choir with the junior and intermediate
Choirs, participating in the morning with,
Cheryl Cronin conducting them.
Mr. Cowan spoke on "Renewing our Faith
and Passing it un", basing his sermon 00
selected verses from Hebrews 11 and 12. His
theme for the evening service was "Let us
Forgive One Another." Mr. Cowan also
sang two solos.
Following the evening service,

4 -Hers ready for
Achievement Night
The seventh meeting of the 4-H Club, the
Classy Cooks was held on October 23 at
Eunice Emke's home.
The members judged tea biscuits and pie
shells, as will be required at Achievement
Night on November 19, IA Brookside School.
The leaders discussed the exhibit on
"Basic Baking Utensils" and the Bake Sale.
The final meeting will be held on
November 6 at 7 p.m. at. Emke's.
REMEMBER: Parents are invited to, the
Women's Institute meeting on November 7
at 8 p.rn. at the Blyth Hall.
The fourth meeting of the Blyth II 4-H
Club, the Rolling Pins was held at the home
of Karen Stewart. Members were shown
how to make an Apple Chiffon Cake, by
Karen Stewart and Peanut Butter Cupcakes
by Rose Ann Machan.

showed members how to decorate cakes
after which they tried to decorate their own
half cake.
How they scored
There were eight tables present fur Lost
Heir last week. Again a husband and wife
took the high for the evening. Bert and
.Dorothy Daer came out ahead of their op-
ponents. The low lady score went to Evelyn
South, while Ray Madill took low man. Lost
lleir resumes again Wednesday at 8 pm.
This week saw 10 tables out for euchre.
High lady was Mary Holland. High man,
went to Verna Glazier of Clinton, playing as
a man. Low lady was Mable McAdam of
Clinton, while Harvey Dolmerage
Seaforth took low man. Lady's lone hands
went to Florenze Routzon and men's went to
Joe Holmes. Special prize for the evening
went to Dorothy Daer.
Remembrance Day services
' The Royal Canadian Legion Brandt 420.
reminds everyone that the Remembrance
Day Service will be held at Blyth Memorial
Hall Monday, November 11 at 10:45 am.

Members of the Legio'n and Ladies Aux-
iliary are to assemble at Legion Hall at
10:30 am.
Sunday. November 10 the church parade
will be held, starting at the Legion Hall with
all Legion and Ladies Auxiliary members
asked to be at the Hall by 9:30 am. The ser -
Vice is at 10 am at the Christian Reformed
Church, Blyth.
Saturday, November 9 will be the Poppy
drive. Please buy a poppy and help support
. a needy veteran.
On Wednesday, November 6 at 1 pin -at the
Blyth Legion Hall a euchre and fellowship
afternoon is being held. All Senior Citizens
of Blyth and District are invited to attend.
Ther'e is no charge for this event. Prizes will'
be awarded and lunch served. • If

Edith Logan, formerly of .Blyth and now a resident at Hwronview iu Clinton, will be 102-
years7old on November 5. Enjoying good health, Mrs. Logan is shown with four genera-
tions of her family at a dinner party at the home of her daughter, Effie ( Logan) Stephen-
son of Seaforth. While rocking her .great great granddaughter, six -month-old Chantal
Stephenson of Vancouver, her great' grandson, Donald Stephenson of Vancouver sits
beside .her. Standing is her daughter Effie and her grandson Robert Stephenson of 01;
tawa. Their combined ages total 268 years, six months. Mrs.,Logan is the former Edith
Jackson and is the eldest of a family of four. She has a sister in Sarnia, Maude Mac-

Children enjoy holiday

The children enjoyed a typical fall -day on
Mondai••,, outside playing in the leaves or
helping -to clean them up, as it'was a Profes-
sional Development Day for them and
therefore, 00 school was held.
Congratulations to Barney and Linda
Stewart 00 the birth of their second son,
Kirk. Kirk was born on October 24, in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London. He is a brother
for Taylor and grandson for Mr. and Mrs.
Jack.Stewart and Mrs. Mary Warwick.
On Saturday the Cubs were but Selling ap-
ples to Customers to raise money. Judging
from what I saw, and the amount.I purchas-
ed, the doctors should be out of business feir
awhile! Fur a worthy cause like that, most
people don't hesitate to take part.
With Halloween coming up, the various
classes at Blyth Public ScIi of are
celebr'atirig • it accordingly. 'There is
everything planned from individual parties
held in each class, to an assembly being held
by the Grade' S students. Hot, dog day will
also be held on•Friday, and'also a dance.
Please remember -Tonight is Halloween
,and all the little ghosts and goblins will be
out trick -or -treating. Please. be on the look-
out for the children on'thc street and have it
a safe and happy Halloween.

celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary'
on October 22. Mr. Young is a patient in
Wingham hcispital so a family dinner was
held there, arranged and attended by Ray
and Betty Lair and grandson James.

tended the annual Huron -Perth • Superan-
nuated Teachers' of Ontario dinner meeting
in Seaforth on October 23. •
Mary's resignation as convenerof the
Good Will Committee was accepted with
regret. She has served capably in this
'capacity for four years,

and Edith Beacom are on the news two year
executive as president and • secretary

At this well attended meeting, Elaine
Gotschall of Staffa, guest speaker, enthrall-
ed her audience .with the subject of cell
biology and the part it plays in daily nutri-
tion.
. On October 23, Joe and Ralph Daer from
Clinton visited with Bert and Dorothy Daer.
Joe and Ralph are not only cousins to them
on Bert's side, but also on Dorothy's.
Kevin McDougall, from the Canadian
Armed Forces in •Petawaw•a, was home for
the weekend..
• Stewart and Mildred Ament spent two
clays last week with Joe and Helen Hoggart
at Turgan Beach, north of Amberly, at their
cottage. •

education in H uron County in the face of extended funding, require the
experience my 11 years on Huron County Board of Education can bring
to the people of Morris, East Wawanosh and Blyth. I have given my
best in the past and I pledge my best in the next three years if I am
re-elected.
