HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1985-10-23, Page 40(NC) -,- Once considered a
luxury item, carpeting 'is
itw. a basic necessity for
many house olds.. It is also
one of the longest lasting
items in a home. Research
shows that major carpeting
is replaced on an average of
once every eight years.
The time and money that
goes into this investment
necessitates a wise carpet
buying decision. Here are
some tips to help you make
the best choice:
•
•
• Examine carpet col-
or in the light in which it
will be seen. Showroom
lights often change the ap-
pearance of the carpeting.
Try to take a sal aple of the
carpet home to get a better
idea of how it w.11 look in-
stalled. If this is not poss-
ible, at least take the sample
to a showroom window or
door to examine its color in
natural light. Also, always
take color samples of your
room furnishings with you
when you shop to help you
coordinate colors and pic-
ture how everything will
look together.
• Choose carpeting
with the amount of room
traffic in mind. Short,
dense -cut pile and loop
carpets stand up well in
heavy traffic areas ,like
hallways and stairways,
while plushes and velvets
are better in low traffic
areas like the master
bedroom.
• Check for fibre fea-
tures that improve the
performance of the
carpet. As an example,
carpets of . ANTRON'®
nylon are stain and soil -
resistant.
• Research before you
buy. 'Collect and study as

much batornlation as you
can before you make your
decision. Some carpet
manufacturers and fibre
producers offer free book-
lets that will help you make
a knowledgeable choice.
• Buy from a reputa-
ble carpet dealer, Make
sure your dealer has a
trained sales staff that can
knowledgeably answer your
questions. Also, be sure
to clarify exactly what
you will receive for the car-
peting's total price so you
won't bedisappointed with
your purchase later. Total
price should include carpet-
ing, padding and installa-
tion. Be sure to ask if there
are any extra charges and
what they are for.
Take time to research,
study and apply what
you've learned before you
make your carpet purchase.
It's time well spent to en-
sure that you get the best
value on a household in-
vestment you will be
pleased with for years to
come.
