Hu.lett Council supports
Auburn cost splitting e,sure
HULI.ETT TWP - Council here agreed
with the proposed cost splitting measure for
fire protection for Auburn.
The proposal, presented to council by the
Blyth and Area Fire Board, calls for
Auburn's five per cent share in fire
protection to be split among East and West
Wawanosh and Hullett Townships. East
Wawanosh will assume one per cent of the
cost of the fire protection , while West
Wawanosh and Hullett will assume two per
cent respectively, according to Hullett Clerk
Harry Lear. •
As a stipulation of the proposal, Auburn
will cease to have representation on the
Blyth and Area Fire Board.
In other business, council rescinded a
motion to invite tenders for a new truck to be
used by the road superintendent. Clerk Lear
says council decided to delay the purchase
of the truck because it would need the
Ontario Municipal Board's approval in
order to buy the truck before the new council
takes office in November.
Two delegations appeared before council.
Tom Duizer discussed the water rate for the
municipal shed water supply. Council later
Morris
roa rnen
get increase
passed a motion to draw up an agreement
with Mr. Duizer for the water supply at a
rate of $100 per year.
`Lan Deslauriers from the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority discussed the
implementation program for soil
conservation on the Murray -Lamb
municipal drain.
Council instructed Clerk Harry Lear to
contact Dietrich of the engineering firm of
Kelley and Associates to look for a solution
to the problems caused by four catch -basins
of the Van Bakel drain on sideroad 10-11.
Clerk Lear was also instructed by council
to set up a meeting with Huron County
planner Wayne Caldwell concerning the
secondary plan amendment in Alma
Corners.
The road superintendent was directed by
council to purchase another rim and tire for
the township's grader as well as to check
into the prices of a new transit.
Council accepted the snow plow operator
tender of Radford Construction for
snowplowing in the northwest corner of the
township. The accepted rate is $38 per hour
and $15 per day standby pay.
A motion was made by council to rescind
an earlier motion to refund the money for a
building permit to Brenda Whyte.
Council approved a Tile Drain Loan for
John Lyons of Lot 35, Concession 10, subject
to the township bylaws and availability of
funds.
A grant of $380 was made to the Hullett
Federation of Agriculture by council.
MORRIS TWP. - Roadmen have been
. granted pay increases of just under four per
cent per hour, but also have been allowed a
new "sick -days" policy. •
- Council granted the increases at their Oc-
tober meeting.
The' hourly rate for grader operators Jim ,
Casenrore and John Smith Inas gone to $9.75
per hour, from $9.45, all increase of, 3.5 per
cent.
Road Superintendent Lloyd Miehie's hour-
ly rate goes. to $9.60'fr(iin $9.25 an increaft,of
just under four pct' cent.
The men also will be allowed six sick days
as of September 1 and that "bank" will in-
crease by one day per month up to a max-
imum of, 15 days. This is the first time
township road workers have had such a
policy. •
Other benefits ,the township. pays for in-
clude OHI'P and a two per cent savings plati
for road employees.
In other business, council endorsed •a
resolution from the Huron County Pork Pro-
ducers. The resolution requests the provin-
cial government }rant immediate emergen-
cy assistance to the red -meat producers of
Ontario and the grant be substantial enough
to allow farmers to compete with other pro-
vinces.
Reeve William Elston suggested sending
the endorsed resolution to the federal
representatives as well since they have a set
agriculture policy for all of Canada.
George Radford Construction of Blyth has
the 1985-86 contract to plow snow on the
township's eighth and nineth concessions for
a price of $41.50 per hour for a grader'. John
McKercher of Jamestown will plow the
third and fourth concessions and Belgrave
with his tandem truck for $39 per hour. The
township roadmen plow the first and. second
and sixth and seventh concessions. •
The official opening of the • new Morris
Township municipal office and works
garage was held Saturday, Oct: 19,
t'r tm 2 to 5 p.m. A ratepayers' meeting has
been scheduled for Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. in the
