Another loss
Iff anyone would like to know what it feels
like to run into a brick wall time and time
again, I'm sure one of the Clinton
Recreation Committee members could tell
you.
Every effort the committee makes to
raise funds for recreation projects and
programs seems to end in a loss. The latest
"fund raiser" - was the NHL Oldtimers vs.
the Clinton Selects hockey game.
The profits from this event were to be split
between the recreation conunittee and the
Junior D Mustangs, however, a loss of $913
was taken by the recreation committee.
Ticket sales of $1,109 didn't even cover the
$2,000 expense of getting the Oldtimers'
team. Add that factor to other expenses such
as the printing of the tickets, advertising
and wages to employees who worked the
evening, and you get a discouraged
recreation comittee.
. At recereationmcommittee's October
meeting, members were frustrated and
rightfully so. What does the public want?
The PRS Rock Video dance failed
From the stands ,
miserably. In this venture, the recreation
committee suffered a $500 loss with only 76
people attending the event which cost $6,000
to put on.
Could the losses be from lack of publicity?
1 don't think so. The video dances were
advertised five weeks prior to the 'actual
date and the recreation committee spent
$276 on advertising for the NHL Oldtimers
game.
A week or two ago, a Friends of the Arts
night was held at the Clinton Town Hall.
Approximately 60 people were invited with
only 20 attending. This event didn't lose any

money, but it must have been disappointing
for the organizers.
So what does the recreation committee
have to do? According to former recreation
director Kevin'Duguay, programs that are
offered have been• requested by the public
through .a survey conducted last year. If this
is the case, why aren't the people
responding?
I don't know the answer to that question
and neither does the recreation committee.
But how much longer can they go on
planning, preparing and organizing events
only to lose money?

CLINTON - Another fund raising act ' y
here has lost money. The NHL Oldtina rs -
Clinton Select hockey game was held 'th
the intentions of dividing the profits between
the Junior ;D franchise and the recreation
department. However, the loss of $913,40
will be absorbed by the recreation
committee., , ,
Committee members don't know what
they're doing wrong. "It's frustrating," said
Bonnie Jewitt. Dan Colquhoun expressed his
feelings, saying, "I couldn't believeit."
Members have heard complaints of not
ses money
enough advertising, "'however, $276 was
spent promoting the event and posters were
put up around town.
A second complaint heard by committee
members was that people didn't know where
to get tickets and they felt those involved in
hockey should have' been asked to sell
tickets as well.
Despite the reasons, recreation
committee is to pay the $913.40 loss.
"The thing that is really disappointing is
that it was an entertaining game,"
concluded chairman Ron McKay.
Junior boys start off strong
The CHSS Junior Boys volleyball team is
looking forward to another winning season
under the coaching of Mr. Jankowski.
This year's team members include Devon
Colquhoun, Mike Corey, Jamie Gibbings,
Jeff Jewitt, Heng Lee, Dean Lowrie, Don
McDougal, Ron McKay, Wunna Myint, Jeff
Roy, Murray Townsend and Paul Wright. '
The juniors starated off strong by wuuung

This year's team is a good mixture of ex-
perienced veteran players and some
talented first year players. The team is well-
balanced, skilful and have excellent 1
chances of making it to WOSSA this year.
