Property tax grant application

HURON -MIDDLESEX M.P.P.
The Ontario Ministry of Revenue mailed
Property Tax Grant applications to eligible
seniors in late August.. The Property Tax
Grant of up to $500 per household is paid' to
seniors who pay property tax either directly
or through rent. The first installment of the
1985 • Property. Tax Grant was mailed in
April: To qualify for the final installment
. eligible seniors must submit an Ontario Pro-
perty Tax Grant application to the Ministry
of Revenue by December 31, 1986. .
• Applications have been mailed to those
who became Cold Age Security recipients
before July, 1985. Seniors who turn 65 and
- receive the Old Age Security pension I OAS)
during the latter half of 1985 will receive ap-
plications no later than .January, 1986.
• Those who think they're eligible, but who
clo not automatically" receive a 1985 Ontario
Property Tax Grant application should call,
the Ministry's..,, Multilingual Information
Centre. •
PROPERTY TAX GRANT
CHEQUES
The Ministry will begin mailing the final
Property Tax Grant installnnents on Oc-
tober 25th. This cheque will be based on in-
formation reported on the 1985 Ontario Pro-
•perty:fax Grant application.
Seniors who turned 65 this year will get
• their 1985 ,Property Tax Grant in one' pay -
meat. •
To be eligible for the Property Tax Grant.
the applicant must be a permanent resident
of Ontario when the Ministry received the
application for processing. A senior who
leaves Ontario before that date no longer
qualifies for the grant.
NURSING HOME RESIDENTS
Residents of nursinghomes subsidized
through the Extended Care Program,
homes for the aged and other institutions
that do not pay property tax are not eligible
for the Property Tax Grant. However, if
they ,moved to a tax-exempt property in
1985, they are eligible for a Property Tax,
Grant based on rent or property tax paid
before moving.
Similarly, nursing home residents who
continue to maintain their home may Claim
the Property Tax Grant if their home re-
mains unoccupied during their stay in the
nursing home and if they intend to return.
SALES TAX GRANT
' The. 1985 Sales Tax ,Grant of $50 will be
mailed to alleligible Ontaro seniors ..on,
November 29th. To qualify, the senior must
be a permanent resident of Ontario on that
date.
Seniors who • haven't ..established their
eligibility for °the 1984 Sales Tax Grant
through Old Age Security have until
December 31, 1985 to file an eligibility ap-
plication.
Seniors who require further information
should contact the Ministry's Multilingual
Information Centre free of charge from
anywhere in Ontario, dial 1-800-263-3960.
Dancers make merry at town hall
CLINTON - The auditorium in the town
hall carne alive ori October 10 when Gordon
Harrison's band from Goderich filled the air
with old time and modern music for the
Merry Makers second Glance.
Thanks goes to new recreational director,
Steve Campbell for his assistance, and to all
others who helped in various ways to make
the evening a success.

profit group of Merry Makers for the pur-
pose of entertainment.

Scavenger hunt held
CLINTON - Members of the Beta Sigma
Phi Zeta Omega and their husbands met at
the home of Gail arid Tom Sinclair on Oc-
tober 5 for a scavenger bunt. The teams
were given a list of 18 items ranging from a
brown hard-boiled egg to the licence
number of the police car. The teal i of
Dianne •Collyer, Sandy Stuart and Marilyn
Tyndall was declared the winners.
Food testing was the theme for the Rush
Party held at the home of Judy Stuart on Oc-
tober 8. The rush party is an evening when
guests can attend and find out what sorority
is all about. A pot lucJ); supper started off' the
evening. Members then tasted a variety of
foods. They had to determine which they
preferred and name the brands. Everything
from peanut butter to bot dogs were tasted.
Debbie Roy was the "wisest" taster and
received a prize for her efforts.
Gail Sinclair gave a reading to detail what
being in sorority means and yellow roses
were presented to the guests.
The next meeting is October 22 at the
home of Marilyn Tyndall.
Hike down Bannockburn
On Sunday, October 20, the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority is sponsor-
ing its annual Bannockburn Autumn Hike.
Between 2 and 4 p.m., naturalists from
the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authori-
ty will lead hikes through the 25 hectare (62
acre) Bannockburn Wildlife Area. This Con-
servation Authority -owned property con-
tains an impressive array of vegetation and
varying topography, which combine to sup-
port many types of wildlife.
The hike is sure to be an invigorating way
to enjoy the autumn colors. Upon returning
from the Tracks and Tenants Natural Trail,
hot cider will greet the nature enthuliasts. •
The Bannockburn Wildlife Area is located
4 kilometers west of Brucefield off Huron
County Road 3.
Hikers are advised to dress for the
weather and 'wear strong waterproof
footwear.
