"Is there life after size 16?"
Lenore Cuddy thought so, and
the fesult is Chez Len's, a store
Specializing in designer label
fashions for the larger -woman.
Located in the Bell building at
the . west end of Downtown
London, the store is the outgrowth
of four years of planning.
"A woman named Carole Show
revolutionized the clothing market
in the United States when she
rote a book promoting
shionable dressing for the
larger woman," says Lenore.
"She told women that if they
are happy at 180 pounds, then
stay there, but look the best you
can. There's no need to dress in
polyesters and double knits."
With the emphasis on slimness
in our society, larger women have
never been given the, chance to
be beautiful, says Chez Len's
owner. But many men prefer
larger women, and yet
manufactUrers and retailers
neglected the market.
"The manufacturer's attitudes
are changing now," she says.
"Recently the Jordache company
began producing sportswear
coordinates in sizes 18 to 24.
"In the past, large-sized

their sizes. It required
consider4ble searching to find
manufacturers who produce the
larger sizes, but now they come,
to, me," she says.
"'Wre's— a great sense of
satisfaction in serving a group of
people who have never had an
opportunity to choose fashionable
clothing. It's a delight to see a
larger -sized woman put on a
designer label dress for the first
time, with a style that makes her
look fabulous. Women who have
never been given a chance to be
beautiful regain their self-
confidence."
Among the specialty lines the
store carries are Mercedes &
Adrienne cocktail and after -five
clothes, the Haydn line of knits
from West Germany, Outlander
Plus casual daytime knits,
Dalkeith separates and
coordinates from Vancouver and
the Givenchy dress line which
Was introduced into the United
States a couple of years ago but
has only now appeared in
Canada.
Locating in Downtown London
was part of Lenore's philosophy
of "destination shopping" where
consumers will search out a store
to buy products unavailable
elsewhere.
