Love from your Family
Ba.yfield artist shows work at B.lyth,
This summer Leda McAlister entered an
oil painting entitled "The Family" in the
Blyth Festival Gallery's art competition.
The painting won two prizes, a rare honour
- one a jury award and the second a people's
choiceaward. "The Family" was declared
to be a near masterpiece by Sarah Brown,
former curator of the Durham Art Gallery.
-Recognition of her talent is not new to
Leda. Her work has been viewed on five dif-
ferent television programs. She has had one -
artist shows at the -Stouffville, Markham
and Goderich libraries, juried shows at an
IBM international art display and the Blyth
Gallery and several Kiwanis art shows.
A long-time painter of oil landscapes,
Leda has recently been exploring the theme
of human relationships and bonding. Pain-
tings which touch on moments shared
between people may be as simple as a
grandfather walking on the beach with his
grandchild or as busy as a market square.
These works are based on sketches she has
made over several decades since her own
children were small. The collection, called
"Changing Ways and Customs", was par-
tially exhibited at the • Goderich Township
Sesquicentennial Celebration in Holmesville
this year.
A one -artist exhibition and sale of work by
Leda McAlister is on show at the Blyth
Festival "Gallery until October 31. The
gallery, located through -the box office en-
trance, is open from 9:00 - 5:00 Monday to
Friday. It may also be visited before perfor-
mances and during intermissions. There is
no admission charge.

Why do leaves change color in autumn?
It's a common question at this time of year,
especially at the, Wawanosh Valley Con-
servation Education Centre.
You and your family are invited to
discover the answer to that age old question
on Sunday, October 6, at the Wawanosh
Valley Conservation Area.
Fall color walks, including a hayride, will
be conducted at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Wawanosh Valley, a 400 acre parcel of
rolling hills, --natural hardwood forests and
